Why were Grants issued? Would it be to new settlers or veterans of a war or other reasons? There seems to be no selling price. Book 5 pg 53 William Sehorn Grant number 1703 State of NC 150 acres land in Union County, south side of Richardson Creek entered 15 day of Nov., 1799, his heirs & assigns dated 30 day of Aug 1802. Will. White Secretary (to the right of the page) B. Williams. Then in 1853, Wm. Hill, Secretary of State went thru many grants and certified these grants as true copies, listing Wm. Sehorn as grantee and the grantor as B Wm. GOV grant Book 5 pg 53 .... I can't find any more on this land. I am trying to find parents of twins I am researching in that area, John W. & Charles E. Sehorn/Seehorn/Seahorn born 1808, in Mecklenburg county. Nina

I have Meta Elizabeth Roberts b. July 19, 1888 Orangeburg County, SC c. October 28, 1961 Sanford, Lee County, North Carolina and her sister Mollie Roberts b. January 1884 Orangeburg Co. SC. Meta m. William Wilbur Cunningham. Mollie, we do not have her real name, m. Dr. Dempsy Jones Hydrick of Orangeburg, where he practiced medicine for many years. I have yet been able to locate their parents. The parents both died 1890-1900. Meta went to live with David Harmon Rush and wife Mary Agnes Holman who she lists on her death certificate as parents. Mollie went to live with Adeline Smoak, a spinster. We do not know the relationship to these people, however in one census I ran across I found a Meta Elizabeth Rush bc 1874. Still no connection. Family or friends? David and Agnes had no children of their own. Any help with these people would be greatly appreciated. I have posted several time. Thank you, Joy --part1_0.7b85df2e.25473f08_boundary--

Have you checked the birth and death records in Mecklenburg Co for the parent's data given on the child's birth record and the parent's death record. That should help you determine the name and location of the parents especially for the Craig line. There are so many Craigs that you have to narrow the field down correctly to find your data. G. Does anyone have a reference to the Providence meeting house and camping ground of the M.E. (Methodist Episcopal) Church, South, in Mecklenburg Co.? The LaClede Co., MO obituary (1855) for John Radford (possibly John Redford), my ggggrandfather, said that they stood "as monuments evidencing his gratitude and benevolence." I'm trying to substantiate his residence in Mecklenburg during the late 1700s and early 1800s - the obituary said he was born in VA in 1768, moved to NC three years later, then to TN in 1805. I can find Redfords, but no Radfords. About 20 years ago my grandfather related a story from his grandfather that the family changed their name from Redford to Radford when they arrived in TN.... but I have no proof.
