I research the Alexanders of Mecklenburg. I show a William Alexander Jamison ( b 1854 ) married Annie L Henderson, daughter of James Sample Henderson & Margaret Elizabeth Harry. They had at least three daughters; Florence, Johnsie & Ada. Would these be your Jamisons ? I would love to have your Alexander line if you would. Richard, You will probably get many responses to this; most of them far more informed than mine. The road is Tuckaseegee Road and currently runs more or less east to west from about the center of Charlotte, goes by West Mecklenburg High School and over to Wilkison Blvd just above the Charlotte Airport. It has been somewhat altered over the years, but was one of the early roads in that area. As I recall, it once ran all the way to the Catwaba river and was one of the more popular forges in the area above the SC line. As for the history of the area, that's a big order! I could refer you to some books if you really want to dig. Many people out there are far better informed than I, but I have never run across the family name "Seegee" in my reading. I checked the index of several of my books about the area and found nothing. Tuckasegree Ford can be found in Western Mecklenburg County, across the Catawba River from Mount Holly (in Gaston County), NC. This spot afforded a means of crossing the Catawba River to land west of Mecklenburg County. Today, there exists Tuckasegee Road, leading from Charlotte, generally westward, toward the Catawba River.
Hello from Burlington, Ontario I am researching the name SEGEE. An internet search produced a reference to a botanist, Andre Michaux, who on 22 Jul 1794, "passed Charlotte in Mecklenburg and slept 6 miles from Tuck-a-Segee ford." Does any lister have any knowledge of this location or its history? Thank you, Richard Segee

Harry, I, too, am looking for Kerr information. My great-grandfather was born in Henderson. These are the people that I am trying to research...Duncan Montgomery Kerr - I have conflicting info has to his birthplace Either VA or Person County, NC. I believe he may have had a brother, Hugh. Hugh and his parents were born in Scotland. Duncan married Mary Ann Weaver Cox in Mecklenburg Co. Feb 29, 1839. They had two sons, William Henry Harrison Kerr born in 1841 and Leonard Wesley Kerr (grgrandfather) born in 1844. They moved to Henderson, KY when, I don't know. I am sure it was probably after 1850. Hugh was said to have moved there first. If this makes a connection, really would like to hear from you as I don't know my great, great, great, grandparents names. Thanks Barb [email protected]
