    1. [NCMCDOWELL] POTEET's in the 1900 Census -Help
    2. Hi List: I received this listing off a 1900 census for McDowell and after looking at it I'm still confused as to how to find my grandfathers dad. It lists my grandfathers grandmother and no husband. June 9, 1900, Marion Township - page 215B #68 - POTEET, Mary A. born Nov. 1842 W Oscar - grandson born Jan, 1886 age 14 (This is my grandfather) Bell C. - granddaughter born May, 1890 age 10 Minnie L. granddaughter born Feb. 1893 age 7 It listed Mary as the mother of 4, 3 living. Mary and all 3 grandchildren were born in NC. Not an expert in census' at all, has anyone come across one like this and could give me advise on what I need to look for next since the grandfather wasn't listed or the children of Mary just the grandkids. Also a grandmother who is 47 has a 14 year old grandson. IM confused. Does anyone have these POTEET's listed? I did cross reference a copy of a POTEET family that was listed on the 1850 census and it seems to fit to the Mary A. POTEET but unless she married another POTEET the name wouldn't make sense. John POTEET 35 Elizabeth POTEET 46 James A. POTEET 13 Mary A. POTEET 7 John POTEET 5 NC Does anyone have access to the 1860 Census to see if Mary is listed with a husband? She would be around 22 then and probably married by then, esp since she is listed with a 14 year old grandson. If not Married, would "Bastardly Bond," have been needed? Thanks in advance!
