Posted on: McDowell Co. NC Query Forum Board URL: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/McDowell?read=573 Surname: HOYLE ------------------------- I am searching for a Hoyle family in the Crooked Run Twnp. of McDowell. I would like to know what area, what city is close to this Crooked Run Twp. I am from Lincoln County and am familiar with parts of McDowell. Christian Hoyle b. 1822 died sometime before 1900, married Mary Cook from Cleveland County, NC. Both were originally from Cleveland I believe. They had 2 children that lived according to the Census 1900. Their names were Burton Hoyle who married a Sarah, and we think a Louise. Does anyone know anything about this family at all? I am working on the Cook and Hoyle lines and need to find them. If you are a descendant I most certainly would like to find you. Dianne Sain, Vale, NC
Dianne, First, I am curious, are you referrinfg to Crooked Creek in Sugar Hill Twsp. of McDowell Co.? I don't know a lot about the Hoyle's, but have a few hooking onto my research. These are reference's I have which may help you. Christian Hoyle appears as a witness to the will of Mainyard Gilliam, written 11 February 1863. Also appearing as witness is William J. Souther. Exec. are Noah Souther and William R. Gilliam. Burton Hoyle, the son of C. Hoyle and Mary Hoyle married Sarah J. Pangle, daughter of Anda nad Fannie Pangle, at the Hoyle home, 16 June 1878. Married by A. J. Dula, J.P. In that same time period Michael C. Hoyle and his wife Alza Noblett Hoyle, the duaghter of Moses A. and Lavicey Vaughn Noblett, had these children marry in McDowell Co., NC.: Sons: John M. Hoyle married L.E. Jordan, dau. of John and Norma Summer Jordan, on 6 Jan. 1874. Married by G.R. Morgan, J.P. 2nd) John Hoyle married Ellen March, dau. of John and Elizabeth March, on 15 Aug. 1878, at the Home of A.J. Dula. Married by A.J. Dula, J.P. 3rd) John M. Hoyle married Mary Ann Bright McCurry, dau. of Aaron and Mary Grant Bright. Mary was first married to William McCurry, son of Willaim and Rebecca Noblett McCurry. On 8 Apr. 1900, by J.M. Reel, J.P. M. W. Hoyle married Alice Sandlin, dau. of John and Rachel Sandlin, on 12 Mar. 1882, in Old Fort. Married by G.W. Harmon, M.G. William Hoyle married E.J. Gunter, dau. of Joseph and Sarah Gunter, at the Gunter home, on 5 Nov. 1879. Married by A.J. Dula, J.P. Daughter - L.D. Hoyle married W.T. Noblett, (not sure of his parentage), on 12 Feb. 1871. Married by N.Souther, J.P. Burton and Sarah Pangle Hoyle had a daughter named Lottie Hoyle who married H.A. Gibson, son of P.(?) and Harriett Gibson, on 23 Dec. 1900. Married by James Gibson, J.P. A son, W.S. Hoyle married Louellen Gibson, dau. of P. and Harriett Gibson (sister to H.A. Gibson above), on 12 Sept. 1900. Married by J.M. Reel, J.P. I am researching Noblett, Reel, Souther, Morgan, Bright (to name a few of the many!) and have found these references in my search. I also have a couple of Hoyle's connecting to research in Lincoln Co. Hope this helps you in your search. Charmaine
