Mode Dover was Native American. Everyone I have interviewed over the years have repeated the same story. I have been told that her son, John Thomas Mode, was part Indian. Maybe this comes through the Mode line. Who knows? Mary Jane died in 1910 and some of the folks that I talked to were in their late 80's, including my granny, who died at the age of 93. Seems odd that so many people tell the same story. Would still like to hear from Jim Padgett or anyone else regarding his information on the marriage of John Mode to Mary Jane Dover and her last marriage to Augustus C. Dover.
