Hi! I'm new to the list and thought I would share my names with everyone. I am looking for information on Arthur RAY and Mae WEST. They were both born in 1892 and they were married 7 Apr 1915. Arthur later moved to GA and had remarried. I don't know if Mae died or what happened to her no one seems to know. I have a list of brothers and sisters for Arthur and his children with Mae and his children with his second wife Ann. I would love to hear from someone with these surnames. Thanks, Laurie Ray jmlsray1@bellsouth.net

Does anyone have a cemetery listing for Woodlawn??? Donna
Thanks to all who responded to let me know the list is valid. Not much traffic here, everyone reports, so lets see if we can fire things up. Film I ordered from LDS FHC just came in -- North Carolina Macon County Records of Wills 1830 - 1966 if any one needs a look-up. I am looking for information on my great grandfather Henry Clay Quiet. His Bible records says he was born Jan. 4, 1846 in Macon Co. NC. By 1850 he was in Blount Co. TN in the household of James Quiet, age 80. I have been searching for HCQ's parents for nearly a year with no luck. HCQ's death certificate list only his father's name as Jim Quite, born VA, no info on his mother. In the census records, HCQ list his father as having been born in VA, but I found only 4 Quiets there, 2 were black, 1 was malotto and 1 was an elderly white woman, Elizabeth. I have exhausted the Blount Co. sources and am moving on. I have searched some Macon County records and all I have found so far was a J. H. Quiet witness to a slave sale in 1840. If anyone comes across this surname in any Macon Co. records, please let me know. The name has been spelled many ways some are: Quiet Quiett Quite Quitt Quaite Quait Thanks, Hester hjanisch@swbell.net
I signed up for the Macon Co. list several days ago and have not as yet received any messages. I was sending this one to test whether I am just not receiving or no one is posting?
Is anyone researching Stubblesfield's? Looking for a Cora Jane Stubblefield. Libby

Would anyone have information on the remains of a man found buried near the Cullassaja River in Franklin N.C. around 1950. I have been told that a newspaper article about the find was published at that time, but have been unable to get a correct date it was published. Thank You, Chas Parker
Hello everyone, I and new to your list and would greatly appreciate any help you can give me and my family. I will give you all of the details I have right now. We are so desperate to find something on grandfather - it is as if he has vanished into thin air and never existed - except I know he did - I have a marriage certificate and birth certificate to prove it! I am looking for death/burial location of Gaither A. Moses or any information leading to his grave site. Also would like to find any living relatives because they could help me find Grandfather Gaither's grave. Pertinent details are: * Gaither A. Moses, born about 1890 in Burke County, NC Our family does NOT know what the "A" - middle initial stands for. * Parents: David Moses and Francis Helms Moses(Surname also has been listed as MOSSES) married January 17, 1877 in Burke County, NC * Believed to have three sisters, Lola and Ruth Moses and Moice J. Mosses * Had a brother named Joe Moses living in Gastonia, NC * Has a daughter named Cansadie (not sure of spelling) and also had twins * Lived in the High Shoals or SOUTHSIDE area, NC in a house next to his father's house for about eight or nine years around 1928 when he was separated from his first wife * Married Mary Lee Moses Nov. 12, 1935 Lincoln County, Lincolnton NC * They separated a few months later (Gaither never knew that grandmother was pregnant with my father - so his new family would be unaware of that they have other family out here) * Believed to have relocated to Bessemer City or Kings Mtn. NC around 1936 and is said to have remarried. He was said to have worked in Shelby, NC in a cotton mill (name unknown) about 1937-40 * Was said to have been very good friends with a Bess and Bynum Cook of Bessemer City, NC and possibly lived with them for awhile. Bess Cook supposedly had one son who took his own life and another son named Gettis (perhaps spelled Gaddis?) and she had a daughter who married, divorced, then remarried a man named June Cook (Bynum Cook's brother) * Was also said to have lived in Tennessee (area ??) at one time and had relatives in upstate SC (possibly in Simpsonville or Abbeville). His sister Lola Moses owned a farm in South Carolina. PLEASE - if you can find ANY information on any of the above Moses family, PLEASE - PLEASE e-mail Cmcamidge@aol.com And just so I don't waste anyone's time), I have already tried * Soc.Sec.Death Index * Online Vital Records * WD FLOYD cemetery site * Ancestry.com (not member/ also as member) * GenForum.com * KnowX.com - paid search * Have written Soc.Sec. * Have written Bureau of Census * Have searched RootsWeb * Have been to Register of Deeds various counties * Have been to libraries * Some have searched FTM CD's for me * Written NC & SC Vital Records and Archives - they have no record of his death but say it is entirely possible "fell through the cracks" and did not get reported at the state level like it should have - perhaps he died in hosp/nursing home w/no relatives (I hope not! I hope someone was there!) I ALREADY FOUND: GAITHER, Moses - died Monroe, NC THIS ONE IS NOT MY GRANDFATHER I ALREADY FOUND: MOSES, JR., Clyde Gaither - HAVE ALREADY CHECKED THIS ONE - NOT MY GRANDFATHER! I've been to several suspected county register of deeds offices and libraries. I really hope you can help me. Kindest regards and... respectfully submitted..Carolyn Moses Camidge
Got this from another list and thought it would be very useful to pass along. Philip Sheppard Beaufort, South Carolina ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Tips on finding maiden names from the 1992 Jackson County, Michigan, Genealogical Society: Nothing will give greater clues to maiden names than the witnesses to old wills. In the lower left hand corner of most deeds, you will find signatures of two to four witnesses. The first is always from the husband's side. The next is almost always from the wife's side and that is to protect her one-third dower right under law. Mortgages: In the 1800s and before, it was traditional when the daughter married, as part of her dowry, for the father to either cover their mortgage or carry a note for his son-in-law. If you can find to whom their mortgage payments were made, 70% of the time it will be the bride's father.
On a photocopy I made for another reason, I have noticed that from 4 March 1852 until sometime after 4 March 1861, there were pension payments made at the Asheville payment office a rate of $23 per annum, to: Catherine Lindsay, widow of Walter (rank, private). The Asheville payment office served all the pensioners of western NC. The ledger was supposed to list pensioners under the "Act of February 2, 1848" which covered widows of Revolutionary soldiers (I think). Who were Catherine and Walter Lindsay? Were they related to the Lindsay nieces and nephews of Elder George G. Caler of early Macon County? Thanks for any help. <angie@mtwest.net>
