Hi Robert. My DETTRO & CLEMMER fam arr Dallas area bef 1800 with my YOUNGs arr 1805-10 era. My part of these lines went on to Monroe Co, TN ca 1830 and to TX ca 1860s. The SLAGLE & MILLERs were traveling partners but don't know of any direct connections. It appears that all these fam were German but got diluted in the 1800s! R U connected to any of these? Hal, I am not descended from either of these families. I have done considerable research on early German families. I live about 2 or 3 miles from the old Clemmer Graveyard on White and Jenkins Road. I had relied upon OUR KIN by L. M. Hoffman as the best source for these families. As with many older genealogies, Hoffman did not have access to all the records and tended to simplify families based upon oral tradition without proving through documentation. Other researchers, maybe you, have since proven that Valentine Clemmer did not come to Gaston County but died, I think, in York Co., PA. (I do not have my notes with me) His wife took another husband in Rowan County. Their connection with the Duttero family served as a vehicle for both families to come to NC. Is this correct? It is what I have read. Were your Clemmers Dunker? Church of the Brethren? How about the Dutteros? I have also been reseraching this most interesting group of settlers. Many Brethren (Dunkers) came to NC after the American Revolution. Where did your Yung family settle? I was aware that a number of Clemmers moved to Tennessee. The area of Blount and Monroe Counties in Tennessee are full of old Lincoln County, NC families. I hope this gives you my perspective. Let me hear from you soon.
