    3. You are probably correct, Ulster's role in so many fleeing here is explained in a book called, "To Ulster's Credit" by Sam Allen. But then Dr. W. F. Marshall may have said it best in the title of his book, " Ulster Sails West" King James was a huge factor is so many leaving, apparently he not only was unkind to Protestants but he thought himself just as important as Jesus. Andrew Melville once said, " No earthly King is a lord or head of the Church of Scotland. There is King James, head of the commonwealth, and there is Christ. Jesus, the King of the Church, whose subject James the sixth is, and of whose kingdom, James the sixth is but a MEMBER." For this Andrew spent many years in the Tower of London. I hope I didn't bore anyone, I just think it's interesting to know why so many of our ancestors came here. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, December 06, 2004 10:06 AM Subject: [NCLINCOLN] Re: Calling ALL MURPHYs > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Classification: Query > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iVB.2ACI/2392.1 > > Message Board Post: > > Am not positive but sure enough to bet the farm that the Murphy's came from Northern Ireland, probably from the Ulster Plantations, as did so many of the other Irish families in and arround Lincoln county. I have only a few bits of Murphy information but have not pursued this family much since they are not a direct line for me. > > If they followed the path that most Scots-Irish did they would have been Presbyterian by faith. I say Scots-Irish because many of those who settled on the Ulster Plantations of Northern Ireland had originally been living in Scotland and were removed to Irelant to start the flax plantations. If you want more detail I can give you some citations. > > > ==== NCLINCOL Mailing List ==== > ==== LINCOLN Co., NC Mailing List ==== > Sharing information on Historic Lincoln Co., NC > For further info, see www.rootsweb.com/~nclincol/nclincoln.htm > Our thanks to RootsWeb for hosting this list and web page >
