    3. Here is a link for the Lincoln Co. newspapers known to be available. This is from the NC Newspaper Project, at the state archives and state library. I do not see any for the years that you are seeking. You might check other surrounding counties. http://statelibrary.dcr.state.nc.us/ncnp/linco.htm#Lincolnton The link for the NC Newspaper Project with links for all counties is as follows: http://statelibrary.dcr.state.nc.us/ncnp/counties.htm You probably have this info which would be found in NC Troops: Holden Stogner, resident of Gaston Co., occupation engineer, enlisted as a private 3/15/1862, and into Co. K, 49th NC infantry at the age of 38 on 4/21/1862. Died of wounds at Sharpsburg, MD, 9/17/1862. You probably can find out other info by looking at his confederate papers on microfilm. These are at the state archives in NC as well as other libraries in NC. Hope this helps! Surnames: Stogner Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/an/iVB.2ACI/2391 Message Board Post: Does anyone know if there is a microfilm record at any Lincoln County library that would have copies of papers dated from September through October 1862. I am looking for a copy of Casualties among North-Carolinians for General Ransom's Brigade. I am especially interested in a Holden Stogner, who died at Sharpsburg, Sept 17, 1862. He lived in Gaston County but enlisted in Lincoln County. I found him in the Raleigh paper dated October 22, 1862; but they misspelled his name. He was listed as a casualty for the 49th, Co. K but spelled his name as Strangner.
