Derick Thank you for the citation about the White's of Lincoln County. I have long sought to discover more information on a White/Wright- Gibson connection in the general area, but find conflicting information showing that there may have been two Gibson families who are closely related and who married into the White/Wright clan. Does anyone have any connection to a Gibson and a White or Wright family in early days, probably 1800 give or take a decade. I would love to delve into this more deeply but the confusion is getting to me..........and I could use some help. I do know this, and a lot more on this Margaret if anyone wants it but she is not the family we are related to: Margaret White of Scotland, m John Gibson, Sr. of County Tyrone, Ireland in 1770. They had three sons: William, James and John. After the death of her husband, Margaret and her three sons came to America with her brother Will White. She settled in Iredell Co., with her eldest son William. Margaret was b in 1746, and died in 1834 at age 88. William Gibson her son b 1771 - 1853, married Elizabeth S. Edmond. It is supposed they had 10 children. The Gibson Family that I have interest in had a similar history, but they were supposed to have come from County Antrim in the Ulster Plantation in Northern Ireland with the father being named William, no name of a wife and three sons William, James and John, they are also credited with other children, among them Joseph. This Joseph stated that he arrived in this country in 1765 he served in the Revolution and his pension papers are available, showing a birth date of about 1758. Anyone with advice, suggestions, questions or direction is invited to contact me either through this site or directly. Agnes, You noted: GIBSON: "...were supposed to have come from County Antrim in the Ulster Plantation ." and "...of County Tyrone, Ireland." The two places are very close together, closer than Hickory and Morganton. Per this subject, I have little but this showed up: 248. Welborn Crabtree WHITE (John III-4, John II-3, Moses-2, Hugh-1) was born on 31 Jan 1805. He died on 24 Oct 1887 in Pike Co. AL... Welborn Crabtree WHITE and Sarah Rebecca GIBSON were married on 1 Aug 1833 in Alabama. Sarah Rebecca GIBSON was born on 22 Aug 1813 in Sumter Dist. SC. She died on 9 Dec 1887 in Pike Co. AL... Welborn Crabtree WHITE and Sarah Rebecca GIBSON had the following children: +403 i. Elvira J. WHITE (born on 14 Aug 1835). +404 ii. James Washington WHITE (born on 19 Aug 1837). +405 iii. Mary Alvenia WHITE (born on 17 Jul 1839). +406 iv. Elizabeth A. WHITE (born on 13 Dec 1840). +407 v. Marion Jackson "Meddie" WHITE (born on 20 Jun 1844). Mr. Francis White Stewart (1858-?) comments on his typewritten manuscript, saying that portions were handed down "50 or 60 years ago." His writings were written after 1924. He states that he doesn't know when or where the material comes from but it appears to have been written by someone with a great deal of knowledge of the family. These records have been preserved by Mr. William L. Ramseur [123 Countryside Drive, Greenwood, SC 29646-9219]. Additionally, there are many WHITEs and GIBSONs in the Olney Cemetery: http://ftp.rootsweb.com/pub/usgenweb/nc/gaston/cemeteries/olney.txt At 03:10 PM 10/31/2004, you wrote: >Derick >Thank you for the citation about the White's of Lincoln County. >I have long sought to discover more information on a White/Wright- Gibson >connection in the general area, but find conflicting information showing >that there may have been two Gibson families who are closely related and who >married into the White/Wright clan. > >Does anyone have any connection to a Gibson and a White or Wright family in >early days, probably 1800 give or take a decade. >I would love to delve into this more deeply but the confusion is getting to >me..........and I could use some help. >I do know this, and a lot more on this Margaret if anyone wants it but she >is not the family we are related to: > > Margaret White of Scotland, m John Gibson, Sr. of County Tyrone, Ireland >in 1770.
