They were married Feb.6, 1888 in Lincoln County, NC. Margaret was the daughter of William A. Lawing and Martha Hovis Lawing. James Elcanah was the son of Miles Bumgardner and Harriet Elizabeth Propst Plott Bumgardner. We have been told that this couple had a daughter born around 1889. Margaret died shortly after, and James Elcanah left the area. What is their daughter's name? Who raised her? Did she live to adulthood? Did she marry and have a family?
