I just joined this list and I am hoping to find further details regarding the RHINE/RHYNE family that resided in Lincoln/Gaston Counties in the early 1800's. My direct ancestor was Jacob RHYNE (born about 1753 in PA and died 1825 in Lincoln Co., NC). He was married to Maria Elizabeth BEST (born about 1757 and died date unknown in Gaston Co., NC). One of their sons was Elias RHINE, born about 1778 in NC and died in Gallatin/Saline County in IL between 1840-1850. His wife was Barbary ? who died before 1834. Elias and Barbary were likely married in North Carolina and lived there until they moved to TN between 1810-1814. Also, how early were marriage records/bonds kept in this county?
