    3. My two cents worth: Guardianship was for an orphan or disabled child involved an inheritance of some kind. A guardian was appointed to make sure it was spent wisely. Bound out as an apprentice was for children who had no means of support and could begin as early as three years of age, both boys and girls. For girls they were of age at 18, for boys it was 21. At age 14 they could choose their guardian if they so wished. If the Master of the apprentice was found lacking by the court, then another Master was appointed.
