Cindy, Only heads of households were listed in censuses until 1850 when all household occupants were enumerated. However, if you know your James Andrew Johnson was born ~1819, you can look in censuses in 1820, 1830, and 1840 for males in the household of the correct age. Lynn Hillsborough, NC -----Original Message----- From: Cindy [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Sunday, April 03, 2005 11:34 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [NCLINCOLN] 1830 census Hi, I am trying to locate information on an ancestor James Andrew Johnson b. 1819 in Grassy Creek. He married Nancy Jane Buchanan. One source listed his father as Andrew Johnson. I have the 1810 and 1820 census records but they only list the head of household so there is no finding a child in the 1820 census. Does anyone have access to a 1830 or 1840 census? In the 1860 census I found James in Mitchell Co. age 41 with his wife Nancy and several children and his name was spelled Jonson- I am assuming this is a typo. Of course, from this census I can not determine who his father was. Thanks for any help you can be.
