Pittman Sent: Tuesday, October 23, 2007 12:08 PM Subject: FW: Revolutionary War flags Hello, A museum in Williamsburg, VA, will publicly exhibit three regimental flags from the Revolutionary War for the first time in 227 years. They are the "colours" of the Virginia Third Regiment of the Continental Army commanded by Colonel Abraham Buford. These flags were taken as a spoil of war on 29 May 1780 at a site 10 miles east of present-day Lancaster, SC, by Lt. Col. Banaste Tarleton. They were retained in England by his descendants until sold last year for about $5 million. As you may know, Buford's Defeat was a defining moment in the Revolutionary War. The Virginians were not prepared and their attempts to surrender were not honored. Out of 350 men, 113 were killed and another 150 badly wounded. The brutality of the incident shocked Americans into strong anti-British sentiments. The DeWitt Wallace Decorative Arts Museum in Williamsburg, VA, will host the exhibit. It will continue for more that one year: 22 Dec 2007 through 9 Jan 2009. See the email below and attachments. Please share this information. Thank you, Bill Anderson -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- From: Balderson, Patricia [mailto:pbalderson@CWF.org] Sent: Tuesday, October 23, 2007 11:00 AM To: band@elesoft.com Subject: Revolutionary War flags Hi Bill: Thank you again for your interest in our upcoming exhibit of four rare flags, and your willingness to share information with colleagues in your area. As promised I've attached the Colonial Williamsburg press release about the exhibit. The attachment does not include photos, but I think the best ones can be found at the Sotheby's website, from several months ago when the flags were sold. Here is the link: http://www.shareholder.com/bid/downloads/news/20051111-179534.pdf I have also attached a map and directions on how to get to the Museums of Colonial Williamsburg, because we certainly want people to come see the flags. Museum tickets are $9 per adult -- more inclusive tickets can be purchased by anyone wishing to tour the Colonial Williamsburg historic area as well. Please let me know if anyone has further questions. Thank you again for your interest! Trish Balderson Manager, Museum Education The Museums of Colonial Williamsburg P.O. To All of Ann's Friends: She is now home but making very slow progress. She was able to take in some soft food yesterday afternoon and evening. However she is very weak and the family asks that calls be discontinued and no visitors until she regains some strength. Ann will talk and even try to take phone calls and she doesn't have the stamina for it. Her husband is having health problems due to the strain of it all and the children have their hands full. She has a long way to go and the family asks that we continue to pray for all of them. Send her a note with a card, even though she can only look at a few at a time, They will be a joy to her as she recovers. Lorena

Many of you who are acquainted with Ann Moore Dellinger either personally or through her assistance with genealogical research will be concerned to learn that she has been hospitalized for the past three weeks at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte, NC. Ann has been through a nightmare experience with botched anesthesiology in which her esophagus and trachea were punctured. Two thoracic surgeons who specialize in heart transplants saved her life but the procedure was traumatic. She was in critical condition in ICU for a week, but has progressed well enough now to be in a private room. I visited with Ann this afternoon and am delighted and amazed at her progress. Even though she is quite weak and has much ahead in terms of recovery, she is showing her usual strength of mind and determination! I will be talking with her in the morning, and plan to see her again later this week. Ann's e-mail is shut down for a temporary period as her husband does not operate a computer. This is found on a roll of Pensioners as of 1835. He is listed as 76 years of age, and had received a total of $436.80 of pension payments beginning on March 4, 1831. In my copy of the DAR Patriot Index is listed both : Forney, Jacob, born 1721, died 1806, and his wife, Maria Bergner, born 1724, died 1808, both are credited with Patriotic Service.
