Any pictures that would link up to the Oyler tree would be great. You can probably look at my tree and see if there is anyone you may have a picture of. Thanks. I think he's buried there in bunker hill and my dad still lives there so I could get his headstone picture if you couldn't find it. But if it turns up then you can email it to me at derbymw80@yahoo.com . I'll have to look for that book too. I may be moving to maryland and hope to do some family research while I'm there for school. We'll see what happens with that. I didn't know that he served. Could you send any info on that to me. 1. [NCLINCOL] Estate files for Adam Bolick
    2. Dave Kaylor
    3. I was just wondering if anyone out there has a copy of the estate files for Adam Bolick(Bolch) Jr. He died on 1832 and was survived by his wife Molly. The message boards over at rootsweb.com have some information about it but only bits and pieces. I understand it prints out to eight pages. If necessary, I'll order it myself from the state archives, but I thought I would check and see if anyone else already has it and could at least answer a few questions. In particular, I'd like to find out if there was a sale of items and, if so, the list of people who bought the items. Any help would be much appreciated __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Tired of spam? Yahoo! Mail has the best spam protection around http://mail.yahoo.com

Joseph is my 2nd great grand uncle. I thought I had a picture of his headstone, but if I do, it isn't filed in TMG. One of our cousins wrote a book on Jacob's family, that I belive is still available. Write me direct, if you want his contact info. Or check on the Oyler board, in the for sale items. So far we don't have proof of Jacobs parents, though there is one that looks like a good possibility. When you scan your Dad's photos, I would very much like to see what our cousins looked like. FYI, my line is from Henry L, Joseph's younger brother. A number of folks want to tie this Oyler line into Valentine Oyler's line. There is not proof that the two lines are connected, at this time. Derr's Lincoln County will dated 20 November 1881 entered probate on 2 December 1881. An abstract of his will was published by Grace Turner and Miles W. Philbeck in /Lincoln County, North Carolina, Will Abstracts 1779-1910/ (copyright 1986 and still available from the authors), abstract number 321. The abstract shows "Brother A. J. Derr" and "Deceased sister Sarah Boger's three children." Recorded Lincoln County Will Book 4: 243. The original will which carries his signature is extant at the North Carolina State Archives. The same volume of abstracts of Lincoln County wills includes that of Mary A. Derr dated 16 July 1859 which entered probate in October 1862, recorded in Lincoln County Will Book 3: 45 with the original will available at the North Carolina State Archives. Mary A. Derr's will, according to the published abstract, names her sons Jonas W. Derr and Andrew J. Derr. My index to Lincoln County estates papers at the North Carolina State Archives includes "M. A. Derr, 1863." The same volume of abstracts of Lincoln County wills includes that of Moses Able Derr dated 1 September 1848 which entered probate in December 1848 and names his mother Mary A. Derr and brothers Jonas W. Derr and Andrew J. Derr and sisters Sarah R. Boger and Jane K. Lenoir. The will is recorded in Lincoln County Will Book 2: 309. The original will is available at the North Carolina State Archives. My index to Lincoln County estates papers at the North Carolina State Archives includes "Moses Derr, 1849." The same volume of abstracts of Lincoln County wills includes that of Rufus Milton Derr dated 26 February 1848 which entered probate in June 1848. It names mother Mary A. Derr, brothers Andrew J. Derr, Moses A. Derr, Jonas W. Derr, sisters Sarah R. Boger and Jane K. Lenoir. It is recorded in Lincoln County Will Book 2: 301. The original will is available at the North Carolina State Archives. My index to Lincoln County estates papers at the North Carolina State Archives includes "Rufus Derr, 1848." The same volume of abstracts of Lincoln County wills includes that of A. J. Derr dated 4 September 1902 which entered probate on 4 October 1902 and is recorded in Lincoln County Will Book 5: 214. It is not recorded on my reference to original wills available at the North Carolina State Archives. Kathy Gunter Sullivan>>> Thanks so much, Kathy. When I was in Lincolnton last June, I actually copied the wills of Mary, Rufus and Moses. Unfortunately, I did not find Jonas's or A.J.'s, but I will certainly do so next time I am in the county. It was only on that trip that I figured out that Andrew Derr, Mary's husband and the father of the others, was the owner of the original Lorentz Darr/Derr parcel (my ancestor, John, sold his share to brother Andrew). Now that I understand that, I am trying to locate as much information as is available about Andrew's descendents. (As an aside - when Terry Waldrup led me through the woods to the old Andrew Derr cemetery, I solved the puzzle that had hung me up. Andrew's stone had a 15 year mistake blatantly stated on it - stated age of 66 at death meant he was born in 1776, not 1761, as stated on the stone. This fit with Lorentz's will, which called John (born 1771) the elder son.) This is all very exciting to me. I don't know that anyone besides Lorena Eaker has done any research on these Darr/Derrs - I have not come across anyone else since I found my great grandfather's account of his 1858 migration to Arkansas and I established the connections between my Arkansas ancestors and the Lincoln County bunch. But I am very pleased that Jason will be sending me the estate file on Jonas W. and I look forward to collecting other information about these Darr/Derrs. 2. Robert Carpenter
    3. Kathy and List, I had forgotten about that post of a number of years ago. Quite a long time ago I presented a program at the request of the deceased Mark Smith. The gist of the program dealt with locating the areas of each of the Companies in the 1790 census by geography. This research had begun with Curtis Mosteller. He shared some of that research with me and I have added to it. In addition I pursued locating Germans in these Companies. I used my knowledge of German surnames and the research of Lorena Eaker in German Speaking Peoples . . . for the basis of this research. I put it aside after that program. I still have that research filed away. If I may assist others, I will consult my previous research which I had forgotten if it had not been for Kathy Sullivan. 1. [NCLINCOL] 1790 Census - Geography of districts
    2. This question, which recently was on this mailing list, has arisen more than once because we all want to narrow down the specific area where our ancestors lived. I remembered that Robert C. Carpenter had responded to such a question but it took awhile to locate the message due to Rootsweb/Ancestry.com's creaky search engine. Robert C. Carpenter's insights regarding some districts are quoted below. If other list members have identified the district in which their ancestor lived, they are encouraged to share that information. It could be very useful to others because we sometimes have to depend on where neighbors lived in order to target our own folks. Kathy Gunter Sullivan. 22 September 2001, Catawba-West Mailing List Subject: Tax District 11 in 1790 Author: Robert C. Carpenter "Tax District 11 was in the eastern portion of present Gaston County. It probably included the present towns of Mt. Holly and Belmont and extended north as far as the Stanley Creek area. "For example, Burrell Wells and Richard Hanks lived near present-day Belmont. The Alexanders and Abernathys and Jo. Dickson lived near Mt. Holly and north of Mt. Holly. It is possible that this district extended as fa north as the present town of Lucia which is in the extreme northeastern corner of Gaston County near the Lincoln County line. Thomas Rhyne and Sam Rankin lived just east of present Stanley. Rhyne's home still stands there. "Zach Spencer lived near Spencer Mountain. I do not know which side of the South Fork River he lived on. I originally suspected that all names listed were east of the South Fork and therefore between the South Fork and Catawba River. I am not so sure. Hugh Barry lived near present Cramerton. Cramer Mountain was originally known as Barry/Berry Mountain. "I hope this has been helpful. Robert Carpenter." 22 September 2001, Catawba-West Mailing List Subject: Tax District 5 Author: Robert C. Carpenter "It is my opinion that District 5 is in present Catawba county. It appears to be in the northern most portion of present Catawba County with the Catawba River being its northern boundary. It most likely included many persons who attended St. Johns Lutheran Church. "for example, the Sypes (Sipes) and Peter Plunk were on Lyles Creek. Isaac Lowrance, the Sigmans, Simon Jonas, and the Fullbrights were all from this area. Other Catawba County names include the Deals, Younts, Bolicks, Ikers (Eher). Most of the names in this district are German names. "I hope this is helpful. It is only my opinion. Robert Carpenter."
