Hal, Which of these families resided in Lincoln County, NC and when did they arrive? We have Slagle, Dettero (Tutherow), and Young (both German and English names) in the area west of the Catawba River. We also have a number of Miller families here as well. Hi Robert. My DETTRO & CLEMMER fam arr Dallas area bef 1800 with my YOUNGs arr 1805-10 era. My part of these lines went on to Monroe Co, TN ca 1830 and to TX ca 1860s. The SLAGLE & MILLERs were traveling partners but don't know of any direct connections. It appears that all these fam were German but got diluted in the 1800s! R U connected to any of these? To List, Ronald Everette Huss died June 3 1972 in Baltimore (he is listed as Everette Huss in the Maryland death index) his father as best I can tell was named Sylvanus Augustus Huss and his mother was named Mary Ella/Ellen Hoke (North Carolina Birth index list her as both Ella and Ellen) Sylvanus registered for the WW 1 Draft iin Lincoln Co NC even though Ronald was born in Catawba co NC on Oct 24 1921 he is listed as just a Huss baby father Sylvanusa Huss and Mary Hoke going by other birth records for this same couple that is how I got his parents full names Sylvanus was the son of Eli or Elias Calvin Huss and Roxanna E Conmon or Connerr NC Birth index list her as Roxanna E Conmon but some in Ancestry world trees says her name is Roxanna E Conner Elias and Roxanna are in the 1900 Lincoln Co NC Census Sylvanus was age 16 on that census. By 1910 he was married to Mary and their where in Lincoln Co by 1920 their where in Gaston by 1930 they where in Cabarrus Co NC. Ronald E is listed as age 8 b NC on that 1930 census He enlisted in the military in WW 11 in 1942 in Baltimore Maryland listed as Ronald E Huss and he was married at time of enlistment as well. HIs military records state he was from NC originally and that he was born in 1921. I am fairly sure he is the one listed only as a Huss b Oct 24 1921 in the NC Birth indexes SS list him also as Everette Huss same dates as above but with no location of his last benefit but does also state his SS was issued before 1951 in NC. So yes his family had ties to Lincoln Co NC and other counties as well. Ronald had several siblings who might possibly still be living so I did not post their names for obvious reasons. Let's all please take a deep breath and return to productive exchanges of genealogical information. The Lincoln message board members are dignified, friendly, helpful people, none of whom have indicated a penchant for being cowards or bullies. The subject line of the inquiry needs to be *Ronald Huss and/or Charles Wantland* -- both of whom were last known to be in the State of Maryland. One response offered assistance and can be followed up by the inquirer in private communication with the person who offered that assistance. Wishing everyone a fine holiday season. I am searching for relatives of a murder VICTIM, who was murdered by the same monster who murdered MY 12 year old cousin. I am not, let me repeat myself, I am NOT searching for relatives of the murderer. I have exhausted all other avenues trying to locate the family. And by the way, Ronald Huss and his family have been a part of my life since 1978, I have been searching for information on them for a very long time. Why on earth would you object to my inquiry? Wantland was convicted of his murder(pled down to 2nd degree) on Dec. 27, 1972 and was sentenced to 30 years in prison. He was released on parole after only 5 1/2 years. 3 weeks after his release, June 17, 1978, he brutally murdered my 12 year old cousin Donnie. He was tried, convicted and sentenced to 2 consecutive life terms (plus misc. additional time for parole violation etc.) in 1979 which was the maximum the judge could give him at the time. We thought that would be enough, but unfortunately, it may not be. Charles Wantland is still alive and currently incarcerated in Cumberland, MD and there is a strong possibility he will be paroled in 2009. A life sentence in 1979 didn't mean life, it meant 15 years, he received 2 life sentences hence the 30 year mark. Ronald was just as brutally murdered as my cousin but because he was considered a "drifter" it's as if his life and his murder didn't really count. I know he had to have people in this world who cared about him and would want to make sure the man who brutally ended his life as well as the life of my cousin is never given the opportunity to harm another living soul. Any help anyone might be able to give me in directing me to his famliy would be greatly appreciated! Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. I, too, am interested in the origin of this deposition of David Warlick in Lincoln County, NC, in 1831, and to know WHICH of the several David Warlick's this man was, i.e., the names of his parents and whether or not he remained in North Carolina.? One David Warlick, around this period of time, sued Samuel Young, Jemima and Robert Mitchum, as well as Boyles, which lawsuit was subsequently settled and the settlement agreement recorded in Lincoln County court records.? I am wondering if the underlying lawsuit just mentioned has any relationship to the matter in which this deposition of David Warlick was taken?? I, and others, have been unable to locate the initial complaint filed by Warlick against Young, Mitchum and Boyles, above so as to determine the nature of that litigation ... whether it was a boundary dispute or disagreement regarding title to land, etc., since the plat for the 1838 land dower of Jemima Mitchum shows adjacent landowners of Ramsour, Warlick, Young, etc. Thank you for any insight you may provide. /Winston-Salem Journal, /Monday, December 10, 2007 New state law will regulate adoption inquiries It will let agencies help connect children, parents By Blair Goldstein JOURNAL REPORTER [Blair Goldstein can be reached at 727-7284 or at bgoldstein@wsjournal.com] People who were given up for adoption years ago will soon have more places to turn if they want to reunite with their biological parents. A new state law allows licensed adoption agencies, including county departments of social services, to act as confidential liaisons, helping connect people to their biological parents and parents to their biological children. Until now, people had to go through the court system to find this information. Adoption agencies are gearing up for the new responsibility. The law will go into effect January 1. The N.C. Department of Health and Human Services Division of Social Services sent out an e-mail last week to social services and adoption agencies that begins to outline their new role. According to the e-mail, adoptees must be at least 21 years old to search for a biological parent or for the parent to search for the adoptee. If both parties agree to meet, the agencies will have to prepare them for the meeting, arrange a visit and then act as a facilitator at the meeting. To be eligible, the adoption must have been completed in North Carolina. Only an adult adoptee, a biological parent or a lineal descendant, such as a son or granddaughter, of an adoptee who has died can receive this service. Joe Raymond, the director of Forsyth County's Department of Social Services, said he thinks that the new law is a positive step. But he said that people contacted may have very different reactions. He said that people requesting information must be prepared to hear that a biological parent or child does not want to meet them. "I think the reality is some people are going to be happy about this opportunity and some are not going to be happy," he said. "It's going to cause them to go through feelings that they thought they had put aside years ago." Another issue is money. The bill comes with no state money attached. Instead, each agency has to decide how much to charge for these requests and how it will absorb the workload. Evelyn Hardy, the adoption supervisor at Forsyth County's DSS, said that the department facilitates about 70 adoptions a year. Today, she said that most of the adoptions it facilitates involve children that come through the foster-care system and are old enough to know who their biological parents are. But she said that 20 or 30 years ago, social issues, such as more restricted access to birth-control pills, led more young women to have children and give them up for adoption as babies. She said she expects that many of these adults will now come to Forsyth County DSS looking for assistance. "I expect that's going to be a service that will be well received," she said. The liaison service is voluntary. But agencies that choose not to participate are required to give people information about nearby agencies that can help. Rep. Margaret Dickson, D-Cumberland, was a primary sponsor of the adoption bill. She said she became interested in adoption as a child when a friend, who was adopted, used to wonder what her biological parents were like. When a group advocating for adult adoptees asked her to help make this question easier to solve, she agreed. "When you have two parties who consent to this, it just makes sense, and it seems the most efficient and most humane way to do this," Dickson said.
I'm? so sorry everyone.
