Sometimes there is a kinship and sometimes the chain carriers are simply neighboring property owners. The North Carolina State Archives' index to land grants shows one grant for Robert Tucker in Guilford County as follows: State Records, Secretary of State Record Group, Land Office: Land Warrants, Plats of Survey, and Related Records Robert Tucker 600 acres on the waters of Uwharrie River, Guilford County Grant Number 259 Issued 1 March 1780 [date the final grant was issued] Entry Number 225 Entered 16 August 1778 [date he first entered claim to the land] Book 33, Page 305 [The index typically lists chain carriers if the papers identify them. In this instance, there are no chain carriers listed.] The land grant papers are on microfilm S.108.720, frames 1040-1043 (3 pages).

    3. I have been told that Robert Tucker died in Lincoln County. He was a Rev. War solider and drew a pension. My question is two of my ancestors were chain bearers for his property. Can anyone tell if they know of a connection between Robert Tucker, Isham Mills, & Simon Mills. Information on the land of Robert Tucker His land was in the 1779 Guilford Land Warrants It states Robert Tucker for grant of land issued March 1, 1780 600 acres on both sides of Uwarie Creek and Isham Mills and Simon Mills are listed as the chain carriers. I have no book listed but had to have been in Land Warrants. Now the chain carriers 95% of the time were related to the person receiving the land. If this holds true in this deed then Robert Tucker was related to the Mills possible marriage of either sister of Simon or Isham, could have been the brother of Simon's mother Mary, William Mills first wife could have been a Tucker. Simon's or Isham's wife could be a Tucker several different ways that this could fit. OR IT COULD NOT FIT AT ALL. Gladly share info but I need help on this item. Does anyone also have the Book and Page for Robert Tucker's land.

    3. Elizabeth was listed widowed in 1920 In 1910 Osborne is listed as O Monroe Howard in LC NC Elizabeth listed as Eliza Howard age 76 died after April 2 1930 where she was living in Iron Station in the 1930 census with a son who's name I cant read might be George he was age 52 living with them was Ralph Howard listed as nephew to head of household Mary Brown Aunt age 74 WW ! draft registerations list a George Asbury Howard b Apr 30 1877 he listed Eliza Howard as nearest relative I did not find Osborne nor Elizabeth on the NC Death index on line at Ancestry even though their is a few listing for Elizabeth and Catherin Howard's who died in other counties who might match her. nor did i find them on the cemetery index for W D Floyd (I have his CD Set) You might try microfilm of the newspapers of Lincoln Co NC or Gaston Co for an obit for either one. Since you have the dates of death it makes it easier I did not find them in the SC Death either Debra ----- Original Message ----- From: <gc-gateway@rootsweb.com> To: <NCLINCOL-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, January 07, 2008 11:12 AM Subject: [NCLINCOL] Osborne Monroe Howard > This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. > > Author: Jthompson1017 > Surnames: > Classification: queries > > Message Board URL: > > http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.northam.usa.states.northcarolina.counties.lincoln/4011/mb.ashx > > Message Board Post: > > Requesting information : > > > OSBORNE MONROE (Big Foot) HOWARD > B- 15 July 1850 D-07 July 1911 > > Son of Francis (Frank) Waggoner & Jane Asbury-Howard > > #1 Married around 1865 > Nancy Pauline Howard > B-15 May 1842 D- 25 Feb 1891 > ***Buried at Bethel UMC Church Cemetery > Denver, Lincoln County, NC. > > 7 Children: ______________________________________________ > > 1. 3. Jamie, I may have information which will help you. I am related to the Brown family through Elizabeth's sister, Esther Susanna, who was my paternal grandmother. The Howards were neighbors of my grandmother's family in Iron Station. I do not have the burial location of Elizabeth and her husband; but Elizabeth's mother and father (John A. Brown and Susan Reel Brown) are buried at Christ Lutheran Church in Stanley, Gaston County. You might try looking in Gaston County. Iron Station is in the southern part of Lincoln County, near the Gaston County line. If you would like to share information, my email address is nancason@tx.rr.com. 3. In June 2007, the BBC presented a fifteen-week series about the firm Fraser & Fraser, a probate research firm in London. It is very interesting. I have watched only the first two episodes (like the second one best), and intend to watch the others. Here is the link (free): http://www.lostkin.co.uk/heirhunters/default.htm
