    1. [NCLINCOL] DAR RECORD FILES
    2. Kathy Gunter Sullivan
    3. Photocopies of documents and proof statements submitted to the DAR are not copyrighted or owned by applicants. The application papers naturally become part of the DAR's collection of evidence documenting a patriot's service. The DAR is not a tax-supported entity. It is supported entirely by private funds, therefore, there is no "right" by anyone to request copies of DAR files at no charge. The DAR cannot be expected to bear the expense of supplying copies of their voluminous files for free. I've never heard that the DAR wishes to keep these records "secret." The papers I submitted to establish my Revolutionary War patriots are in my personal files and are also in my patriot's DAR files. Researchers have two choices: 1) personally do the original research and collect the necessary documents or 2) reimburse the DAR for photocopies of someone's research that are in the DAR collection. Kathy Various messages state: > I have wondered for years why the DAR was so careful to keep these > submitted records secret. Considering the organization started in 1880 > era, they surely have valuable papers that cannot be found elsewhere. > It is my thinking after dealing with several of the ancestor organizations (DAR, DRT, Colonial Dames, Mayflower Society) that someone who owns the > copies would have to give permission; otherwise I doubt they would do it.

    2. I have wondered for years why the DAR was so careful to keep these submitted records secret. Considering the organization started in 1880 era, they surely have valuable papers that cannot be found elsewhere. Suddenly I learned that a ninety year old member had given her permission to permit DAR to make copies of her ancestor's paper. I think that I paid $30 or so for my share of the expense. We found information about our HARRISON ancestors that none of the current researchers had ever heard of. It gave us a new generation or two. How does one go about knowing what family papers the DAR has? The cost to copy? Who to contact? Gratefully HFisher **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. 3. Brownie, Quite interesting info, Thanks. Question "after dealing with several", Is these dealing currently going on? If so, would it be asking to much of you to find out what would be needed to release these documents? Also, if what is needed could it be part of the orginial filing? release etc..... This would be a great benefit for all who needs this info. Like I say, thanks for the info. William Bost and his family, moved to Catawba Co. William has a son, also named Elias. Someone told me all the sons were named Johannes plus a middle name. I was never told this through my family, but... I am looking for a document to link Elias (b. 1772, m. Mary Ikerd) with his father Jonathan (b1800) who married Salome Lutz. All are buried at St Pauls Lutheran cemetery in Newton, NC. I know that Johannes Wilhelm Bast aka William Bost, is listed as a patriot in the DAR books. I am just missing the link listed above. I keep hoping someone from Elias' (1772) or Jonathan's families will have something to link them. My family, although we also descend from them, only were given names. 1. Re: [NCLINCOL] Climer/Clymer/Climmer/Clemmer/Clemer/Clymmer
    2. I am trying to find my gggrandfathers family. I only know his fathers name was Claude/Claud Climer. I have been told the name could be Clemmer. I do not have his mothers name. According to his death certificate mothers name unknow. This is his son in law Seymore Lawler. Both parents were to have been born in TN This is my brick wall. IS he a climer, clemer, clymer, climmer, clemmer, clymmer Who are his parents This I do know. according to death certificate born 1858 and died03/06/1936 Logan Co KY I think I can find him in the 1880 census in Smith Co TN but not really for sure. The age is wrong and he is in another family hh as a labor Austin. However where are the parents. So I thought if I tried to find a connection in NC Coming to TN I might find something that way. My young connection is in two places with the family William Young born in 1783 came to Smith/Jackson CO TN settled in Horseshoe Bend on the Cumberland River. His daughter Narcissus Johanna Sircy married William Young (Alex) Thomas. Their son William Riley (Darb) Thomas is the father of my great Uncle Bill Hughes. He is my great grandmother's brother. Know they had the same mother do not know for sure if they had the same father. My other Young connection is Milton Young and Nancy Witcher had a daughter named Elizabeth S Young that married Jesse B Kirby Sr he is the father of Jesse B Kirby Jr. and he is the father of Mary Elizabeth (Mollie) Kirby and she is the mother of Bailey Peyton Cassitty, and he is the father of Viola Betty Cassitty and she is my mother. William Young (Alex) Thomas who married Narcissus Johanna Sircy/Searcy We beleive his mother was Nancy Young and his father is William Thomas. We have not proved it. Still working on that one. 1. [NCLINCOL] Absalom Bonham, Vardry McBee, Daniel McKisick
    2. Absalom Bonham, Vardry McBee, Daniel McKisick all interacted in the vicinity of Lincolnton, NC before 1800. Bonham was living in 6th Company of Lincoln County, NC 1790 census along with several of Rebecca's brothers and in-laws, and he died in about 1794. McBee moved to SC. McKisick moved to TN. So sometime between about 1750 and 1805, we have these three more or less close to each other. McKisick lived in 6th Company of Lincoln County, NC 1790 census along with several of Rebecca's brothers and in-laws. He was a Sheriff of Burke County from 1777-1779. Fought in the Battle of Ramsour's Mill in 1780. Bonham had acreage...not certain where, but he also owned a couple of buildings in downtown Lincolnton at one time. McBee had a daughter who was supposedly the mother of Rice Farrar Ross, who married Sarah Bonham, a daughter of Absalom and Rebecca Cox Bonham. Bonham's youngest daughter, Rebecca (named for her mother Rebecca Cox Bonham) had at least one child with John McKisick, Daniel's son. I can prove everything except the McBee/Ross connection. Those of you involved in researching in the time frame of 1750-1805, please contact me, if you run across a McBee/Ross connection in your research. Thank you.
