    1. Re: Hinkles in Lincoln County, NC 1850 Census
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iVB.2ACI/2351.1 Message Board Post: The Lincoln County Marriage book shows the following: Hinkle, Isaac; Lockman, Rachael; witness Wm P. Connel, bond dated 26 Dec 1838. That is not necessarily the marriage date. The original bonds do not show parantage this far back and probably would bring you no other information than appears in this index. You might want to try for early Lincoln Co. Wills for both the Hinkle and the Lockman families to find information about siblings etc. and there could be a will left by either Isaac or Rachael or both, giving the names of their children as well as the extent and location of their holdings. When you do send for any wills request the estate papers also, they can be extensive and very informative. Most of this is available through the Family History Library and the FH Center near you. Many, if not all, of the early records of Lincoln County have been filmed. If you are in North Carolina you can find it all at the Archives in Raleigh. Am not sure that Lincoln Co has copies of those films, but they could have. If you do not know how to do this or where to find the information I can give you some clues. My email address is displayed at the top of this page on the message board itself,

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: Hinkle Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/iVB.2ACI/2351 Message Board Post: I am looking for a line of Hinkles from Lincoln County, NC. The farthest I have been able to go back was the 1840 census. In the 1850 Census there is an Isaac and Rachel Hinkle living in Lincoln County with children Irene or June (Can't tell by the handwriting), Amanda, Sarah, Melinda, Mary, W F, and Rachel. I am interested in Isaac and Rachel's lineage since anything beyond 1850 doesn't show all the family members in the census. I believe Isaac and Rachel are my great great grandparents with W. F. being my great grandfather. W. F. was William Freeman Hinkle or listed as just Freeman in the 1860 census and then William Freeman in the 1870, 80 1900 and 1910. Any help or knowledge about this family would be appreciated.

    3. Virginia, you are a sweetie pie for posting this web site and I am passing it along to some of the other lists that I subscribe to. Ann Propst, Brevard, NC -----Original Message----- From: vlapham [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Friday, June 18, 2004 10:17 AM To: [email protected]; [email protected] Subject: [DescendantsJohnLKent] Grave sites of 562 Kents - Civil War The information below was sent to me by a genealogy colleague and I found 562 Kent names including wives of veterans at the following location. http://gravelocator.cem.va.gov/j2ee/servlet/NGL_v1 "More than three million records showing where veterans are buried in VA national cemeteries are now available online at <http://www.cem.va.gov> http://www.cem.va.gov. This innovation will make it easy for anyone with Internet access to search for the gravesite location of deceased family members and friends. The Web site will be update nightly with information from burials the previous day. "The nationwide grave locator contains more than three million records of veterans and dependents buried in VA's 120 cemeteries since the Civil War. The locator also has records of some burials in state veterans' cemeteries and burials in Arlington National Cemetery beginning with 1999. State cemetery burial records are from those cemeteries that use VA's database to order government headstones. Arlington National Cemetery, operated by the Department of Army, has used that database since 1999. "The Web site displays the same information that visitors to national cemeteries find on kiosks or in written ledgers when locating gravesites: name, dates of birth and death, period of military service, branch of service and rank if known, the cemetery's location and phone number, plus the grave's precise location in the cemetery. "Some information, such as identification of the next of kin, will not be shown to the public for privacy reasons. Immediate family members with a government identification card may ask to see the full record of a burial when the visit a national cemetery." Virginia Yahoo! 1. CLINE/SIGMON puzzle solved
    2. L Eaker
    3. Greetings! Some more information has come to light to solve some of the Cline puzzle and I'm passing it along. Thanks to Robert who passed it on to me. Anyone having an interest in this family should conact Robert at [email protected] for more information. When I did "German Speaking People West Of The Catawba River In NC 1750-1800" (which is now back in print) I was unable to solve the mystery of which Cline family that Catherine, Wife of Christopher Sigmon, belonged to or even which Christopher Sigmon was involved. The reason being that her father Martin (and brother of Valentine) had left the area of Lincoln Co and moved to Sumner Co., TN. The problem is solved by Sumner Co., TN DB 12 pgs 350-352 and Lincoln Co., NC Court Sessions of July and Oct 1828: This Indenture made this 6th day of July 1828 between Rachel Cline and Michael Cline and Margaret Cline his wife, John Cline and Catherine Cline his wife, Adam Cline and Sarah Cline his wife, and Christopher Sickman and Catherine his wife, his legal heirs & test relicts of the estate of Martin Cline of Sumner Co. and Commonwealth of TN ........... Note: This deed and attached court records is quite lengthy but sorts the family out quite nicely. Martin Cline was only in Lincoln Co. a short few years before moving to TN. Perhaps Christopher and Catherine's descendants will help Robert with any NC questions he might have. He has a "Round Robin list " going of researchers interested in this line of Clines". Just my good deed for the day! Enjoy! Lorena

    3. According to "North Carolina Wills: A Testator Index, 1665-1900" compiled by Thornton W. Mitchell, p. 247 is the following: Hoover, Henry, County 060 (that's Lincoln Co., NC), 1824 WB-1:3 AR (that's Raleigh) Hoover, Henry, County 065 (that's Mecklenburg Co., NC), 1850 WB-1-167 AR (that's Raleigh) Hoover, Henry, County 028 (Craven Co., NC), 1789 WB-A:209 (hopefully might be found in that county) Nothing listed for Elizabeth Hoover. I also checked variant spellings of Hover and Huver, nothing listed. Hope this helps. 3. Thank you for posting this. This past weekend, I went to Washington, D.C., and on the way back went to Richmond to visit Oakwood Cemetery, where 17,000 Confederate soldiers are buried. I had visited the site of Libby Prison[mentioned in the article] in Richmond on a previous trip and also several other sites---Chimborazo Hospital site and Hollywood cemetery, among many others. Any one with ancestors who were in the Confederacy or who has an interest in the Civil War would find a trip to Richmond very fascinating and moving. {I had several ancestors who were hospitalized in Richmond during the War and one buried at Oakwood in Richmond.} Again, I appreciate your posting this link--the article was very interesting.
