Have you tried the Giles County Historical Society Bulletin? Dist. 21: Abernathy, Joseph T., 28, b TN, Elizabeth, (wife), 26, b AL. {this is my 2GGM, Sarah Elizabeth Mobley}, then it lists the children... NOTE: Both Rev. J.T., and Rev. David N. were affiliated with Andrews Chapel, Hanover, Coosa Co. AL, named for Bishop Andrews, who I believe was a protoge of Daniel Asbury.(?) The only other Abernathy family in that general area , that had M.E. ministers, was the family of Thomas Smith Abernathy; descended from Henry Abernathy (son of John Jr.) and Rebecca (Firth). While I'm sure they were cousins, POB's and DOB's certainly separate them as being any closer than that. Additionally, the only listed child of Joseph b 1749, is his daughter, Betsy, although I think I may have found a son; Millington, listed next to him on 1812 Maury TN Tax List. ALSO: In LINCOLN CO. NC WILLS, there is a will of a Charles Williams, which mentions daughters married to Abernathys, and the later Williams (will) directly beneath that one, lists a son: Millington Williams. (Doing this off the top of my head, but I'm sure of it.) If I can think of anything else which will help, I'll post it. OCF

He is listed as Jr., next to brothers: Ephraim and Milton P., and David (b. 1752) is listed as a Sr.! Next, he is in 1820 Giles Co., TN census, directly above a Joseph Abernathy. NOTE: They are both in age 26-45 category, and therefore cannot be David and Joseph, the sons of David b. 1726 d. 1814, (as they are b. 1752 and 1749, respectively!!!) Now, the problem is; The family of David and Christina does not list him as a child of theirs, nor is he found anywhere else, other than where I have previously posted. (I have SCOURED all available censuses for the past 3 years!) Additionally, I have obtained the service record of the only David Abernathy in the War of 1812, and he is doubly (and separately) listed therein as both David, and Daniel! His unit fought in the Creek Wars in AL from DEC1813 to FEB 1814, in the very area to which he moved! Lastly; my GG uncle, Reverend David Nathaniel, was also called 'Daniel', for short, and was listed that way in censuses, while still a child. My conclusion: 'My' David MUST be a son of either either David or Joseph, who both moved f! rom Lincoln Co. NC to TN abt, 1811.(?) I will post again with a bit more info... OCF

If you would please update this thread after Aug 15th I will get a reminder to look at my files. David Abernathy, christened 29 May 1726 in VA, is my 4th great grandfather. His son David Abernathy, b. 29 July 1752 in VA, married Christina Forney 27 May 1782 in Lincoln Co., NC, d. 1838 in Giles Co., TN. My guess would be that your David Abernathy, b. 1790 in (Giles Co.), TN, was the son of David & Christine, but I don't have him in my database with me. Christina Forney's sister Eliza married Judge Henry Young Forney and then ended up in Greene Co., AL, and the descendents all lived in Eutaw, AL. Their son Dr. Henry Young Webb married Elizabeth Smith Alexander in Eutaw. I have a bunch of stuff on Eutaw at home too, which I could look up. David, Nathaniel, Joseph, Alexander, Robert are all names in this family, used repeatedly each generation. Hate to be so tantilizing and offer no real data, but everything's at home & I won't be back until after the 15th Aug. Please do update this thread and I'll try to remember also and we can track this down. I'd love to find some Abernathy kin! If you have any questions, please contact me before the 15th and I might find something else hidden on my computer. (I'm sure going to look!!) Alice Campbell

Christian lived in NC until 1827 and came to KY then. He had remarried to Sally Edwards Mauney and they settled in SE Ky., Whitley County. I have info all the way back to 1649 on our line thru Hans Jakob Mauney. In 2000, my wife and I drove to NC to find some of the things I have heard about the Mauney line. We had a great time and we did find the Mauney cemetary alongside the Antioch Methodist Church, just outside of Crouse, NC. There is so much info around this county, I don't know where you live but if you live in NC, go there. The Mauney name there is just like Smith & Jones anywhere else. I have pictures of the cemetery and the Christian Mauney memorial on one of the highways there. Anyway there are tons of information about us. I knew Neal Caskey (thru genealogy sites) and have one of his books. His Mother-in-law, Bonnie Summers Mauney, was the author of the first book I found on the Mauney's (THREE MAUNEY FAMILIES). You probably have all this by now, so contact me if I can be of any help. Bob Mauney 209 Jasper Lane Mt. Washington, Ky 40047-6146
