I found a deed that confirms it: Deed bk. 36, P.504, Jan. 28, 1835....INTEREST in 114 acres - $150.. Jonathan & Sally Hager, et al to Isaac White (all of Lincoln Co.): Between Wilson White, Jonathan & Sally Hager & Nancy P. White....doth sell Their interest & claim in a tract of land deeded to Robert White, deceased.....in Lincoln Co....on Long Creek....joining lands of John White & Abraham Mauney? Wit: John White & Sally White. Signed: Wilson White, Jonathan Hager & Sally W. Hager. Sally White's siblings were Wilson White, James White, Eliza Jane White (m. Rooker/Rucker). A DAR file lists Jennie Scott as the wife of Robert White, but Presbyterian Church records for the area, Concord Presybtery, show Robert and Nancy White presenting a child for baptism on 28 Nov 1804. A Nancy White who died in 1815, age 37, is buried next to Robert in the Long Creek Cemetery. The 1834 petition of Jane (Jennie?) White, "widow and relict" of Robert White names Nancy P. as a minor. It would appear that Jennie Scott, named in DAR records as a wife, was a second, younger wife of Robert White, probably the mother of minor Nancy P. while the Nancy (d. 1815) buried next to Robert at Long Creek was the mother of the older four children. Now if you could only come up with parents for my mysterious Jonathan Hager! Process of elimination has gotten me nowhere! He was not George Hager's son--but probably a grandson--but by what son???? Jonathan Hager died in Carroll Co. GA May 1862--after being sent home from Richmond. The man had little enough sense to enlist in the CSA when he was 50 years old!

Walker was born cir. 1876. As far as what has become of John after Walker was born, I have not attempted to find him yet. Rebecca was a Hager by birth also. Her parents were John Sparrow Hager and Sallie Nixon. John was the son of Robert and Anne Robertson (daug of Alexander Jr. and Jean Robertson). Robert and Anne's son Phillip was father of John F. Hager (see above). With the John F. and Rebecca being first cousins (not uncommon marriage in those days, just plain weird now) may explain why only one child is found, but then again, so can their dissappearance. Robert Hager was the son of Simon Hager and Susan Lawing Hager. Simon was the son of William and Elizabeth. William and Elizabeth's son Christian (married Elizabeth Beele or Beal - seen both ways) had a son named William B. Hager who was married to Frankey Robinson, daughter of John and (unknown) Robinson. Ann and Frankey were not sisters. Since your original posting was 3 1/2 years ago, you may have found this information already. Good luck.

I am researching Robert Abernathy that appears in Tryon County, NC records by 1769. This Robert Abernathy appears to descend from a Robert Abernathy who was born in Scotland about 1624 and was in Charles City County, VA by 1657. Robert Abernathy (IV?) migrated from Prince George County to Granville Co, NC, and then to Tryon County, NC. His 1772 will names Robert Abernathy, Ann Turner, John Abernathy, David Abernathy, Elizabeth Williams, and Miles Abernathy. Robert Abernathy (V?) was born 27 March 1742 in Prince George County, VA. and died about 1792 in Lincoln County, NC. His will names wife Sarah, Robert Jr., William, Charles, John, Miles, Sarah, Amey, Smith Abernathy, Lucy Cox, and Nathan Abernathy. Please contact me if you are an Abernathy descendant or researcher. Help is needed to sort various Tryon and Lincoln County records to the right Robert Abernathy and generation. Which Robert Abernathy is a delegate from Tryon County, NC to the 1776 Halifax Convention? Is the Lucy (Abernathy) Cox mentioned in the 1742 Robert Abernathy will the wife of Vincent Cox of Lincoln County, NC? Thank you!

Tryon Courty was formed from part of Mecklenburg County in 1768. Lincoln County was created from part of Tryon in 1779. >>I am also not certain of this - just a genealogical hunch, but I do feel John's family was one of Owen Murphy's sons - either James or William. Owen Murphy's Will is dated December 1775, and his wife Abigail signed executor with her son James in January 1776. I am wondering if Abigail returned to her old country after Owen's death. Just a thought. In Owen's Will, he mentions grandson John. >> Your hunch is probably right about John Murphy's descent. . Owen Murphy's 1775 Tryon County will names his wife Abigail, his son James, his eldest son William, and his grandson John. Owen's will names his wife and son as co-executors, but Abigail relinquished her share of the responsibility to her son James. Abstracts of William Murphy's will and of James Murphy's will were published by Grace Turner and Miles S. Philbeck, Jr., *Lincoln County, North Carolina, Will Abstracts 1779-1910* (Philbeck and Turner: 1986), 880, 881. William Murphey's undated will names his wife Elisabeth, and his son John. The will entered probate October 1779. James Murphey's September 1785 will names his wife Elizabeth, mother Abigale, sons William and Moses. James Murphy's will entered probate October 1785. It would not be logical for Abigail Murphy to leave her children and return to "her old country." She had lifetime rights to all of Owen Murphy's personal property and the house. According to James Murphey's 1785 will, mother Abigail is still around; probably living in her usual homestead. Unfortunately, none of the Murphy fellows (Owen, William, or James) have extant estates papers. A John Murphy has estates papers dated 1828 but no will. Good luck! Kathy Sullivan
