I transcribed some of the records of the Bear Creek Primitive Baptist Church located at Duke this summer and just getting to typing them up. Had a LONG conversation with Elder J. M. Mewborn this afternoon. There is a list of people who subscribed to the building fund for the 3rd bldg for this church but there is no date. J. M. said it would have been about 1856 give or take. It is an interesting list of people and includes among others, Joshua, Noah, William, Benjamin and Wiley Rouse and they were among the most generous with their donations. In 1776 John Rouse was a delegate from Bear Creek to the Conference. That would not have been John Rouse III said to be the father of Wiley (unless there was any earlier Wiley) Benjamin, Thomas, but would have had to be John Rouse II. If the date is correct, that would have been Noah II as Noah I died in 1850. I am not sure all the subscribers were members of Bear Creek but some were probably neighbors or had ancestors who were members. Bear Creek was established in 1756 and oh for those early records to be found. Anyway it makes for interesting speculation that all those Rouses must have had a direct connection back to John II.
