Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QUB.2ACE/1019.1 Message Board Post: If you haven't already, you might start with Gabriel Holmes who was North Carolina's governor from 1821 to 1824, and his son Theophilus Hunter Holmes (1804-1880) who was a West Point graduate (1829), a career army officer with the 7th US Infantry, and a lieutenant general in the Confederate Army during the Civil War. Both, I believe, were born in Sampson County and lived in Duplin County. Theophilus H. Holmes' family is in the 1850 US Census at Jefferson Barracks, St Louis. MO.
