Marcellus W. Rouse married Julia Elley Abbott daughter of Thomas Jefferson Abbott (son of Samuel and Mary Peabody Abbott who were born in England) Thomas Jefferson Abbott was born 11-5-1808 in Lenoir County. He was a coachmaker by trade and later became a planter. He was a captain in the N.C. Militia and a prominent Whig political party member. He died 4-14-1853 in Lenoir Co. His wife, Lucindia May Phillips, daughter of Peter Phillips and Martha Sumrell Phillips was born 3-26-1812. Her father served in the War of 1812, and then became a prominent land owner and planter. She died in Lenoir Co. 8-20-1898 at the age of eighty-six. They were the parents of ten children born in Lenoir Co; Joseph Henry Abbott married Margaret Ann Sumrell; Samuel Abbott married Nannie Brock; Martha Elizabeth Abbott and Mary Jane Abbott, twins, were unmarried; Stephen Decatur Abbott married Martha Jane Hartsfield; Thomas Jefferson AbbottJr., Lavenia Ethalis McCoy; Julia Elley Abbott married Marcellus W. Rouse; Susan Betty Abbott married Rev. Charles C. King; Lucindia or Lucy Abbott married Richard Montgomery Abbott; and Georgianna Abbott was not married. Maybe there was a connection of deep friendship and was named after him. Dr Richard Williams Wooten opened an office for the practice of medicine in his home community, serving the southern part of Lenoir Co., Jones Co. and parts of Onslow Co. He married Carrie Duffy of Onslow. One of their children was named Marcellus Wooten (June 10, 1875 to November 10, 1899). Dr. Richard Wooten remarried after his first wife's death to Josephine M.
