    1. Lenoir County paupers
    2. While reviewing items from old Lenoir County news publications, I noticed several articles that dealt with listing of Paupers, Pauper graves, etc., I noticed that my ggggrandmother was listed as a pauper for the Sandhill township 1879. However she is listed in the 1880 census records at age 90 in the household of her son Abram McCoy,( my gg grandfather) - Lenoir county- Sandhill township. Anyone with information on the criteria for being listed as a pauper or where I might find any information on this. My take on this had been that you had to be homeless to be a listed as a "pauper". I don't know where I got that info. T. Bryant

    3. Tean, do you suppose she was receiving some sort of old-age assistance from the county which therefore placed her on the "pauper" list? I don't know if such assistance actually existed at that time, but that is a possibility worth exploring. R.
