Looking for information on a George Canady/Kenedy West Daughety ,a slave,is said to have gone away with his master Burrough( Burr )Canady to join the fighting. It said that they went to Tennessee to enlist ) He took his oldest son John Lewis Daughety with him. I am told that John Lewis and his father returned to Lenoir County , after Mr. Canady had been killed at war ,as free men. "'They both had lerning when they returned" as reported by "word of mouth" to mean they could read and write. I am trying to find records on Mr Canady ( it was said that he wa buried in a Tomb on the banks of the Neuse River where he owned land. George 's wife, Emeline Daughety is listed in the 1870 census along with John Lewis and other childrens but George had died before 1870. I don't know if he was a part of any army but was said to have helped with taking care of wounded troops near Kinston after he returned. I am trying to find out how he served.
