There is a list of Mayors of Kinston in the back of "The Heritage of Lenoir County" book. Speight Brock West served in 1861 and 1867. His first term appears to be for 2 years, and his 2nd term was for 1 year. It is hard to tell just how long the terms were because some are over a year, but most are for 1 year. Also listed among the Lenoir Co. Sheriffs as sheriff of Johnston Co. from 1750 to 1752 is John West. I assume that this part of Johnston became Dobbs Co. since it is listed in Lenoir Co. Heritage.
