    3. In proofing the 4th generation, think I just came across your Lula in a note from Mrs. Essie Simmons. YOu need to find the proofs. v. BENJAMIN H. SUTTON was born on 4 Mar 1845 in Lenoir County, North Carolina. He married Sarah A. V. Carter. He died on 22 Jul 1909 in Wayne County, North Carolina, at age 64. He was buried in Piney Grove Cemetery, Wayne County, North Carolina. Winnie refers to him as her youngest brother but he was not the youngest son. It is possible that he was he youngest whole brother but there is no evidence that ELizabeth Herring Barrow had any Sutton children. Mrs. Essie Simmons gives her maiden name as Carter. Their children given as James who son Jim md Eliza Rouse of LaGrange, Bill who married a Moye, Charles, Lou who md Ben Moye, and Nannie who md Charlie Garris. ***** Benjamin H was the son of Benjamin Sutton and probably his 2nd wife Eliza Herring. The will of Benjamin Sutton is on the Wayne Co Archives, the estate records of Simon Herring, Eliza's father is on the Lenoir Co Archives. Benjamin Sutton 16. BENJAMIN3 SUTTON (Benjamin2, John1) was born on 28 Apr 1795 in Lenoir County, North Carolina. , , He married Mary Jane Hines circa 1819. He married Eliza Herring, daughter of Simon Herring and Nancy Dawson, circa 1840. He married Elizabeth (Betsy) Herring circa 1858. He died on 28 Sep 1864 in Lenoir County, North Carolina, at age 69. , He was buried in Benjamin Sutton Cemetery,, Lenoir County, North Carolina. Two of Simon Herring's daughters married this Benjamin Sutton, Eliza and after her death, Elizabeth after the death of her first husband, John Barrow. We have no way of knowing who the mother of some of the children were not knowing when Mary Jane Hines died. Given the five year gap between Henry and Mary, it is assumed Mary was the first child of Eliza Herring. Much of the work on this family was done by Tory Sutton Helmon and Mattie Jolly. Benjamin was the son of Benjamin and his wife Sarah assumed to be a Hardy of some sort. This is a major departure of what has always been written of which there is no circumstantial evidence but it is what I think and others have now agreed. This is the Benjamin usually referred to as Benjamin Oxley but there is no circumstantial that his middle name was Oxley. Benjamin was the proven son of John, the first one into Dobbs County. His widow was Ann, whether she was the mother of his children is speculation.
