I also have the following relating to a Rouse family in Bertie. I thought this was interesting since the names were the same as my ancestors living in Dobbs at the same time. It makes me think they were closely related: (From: Misellaneous Items from Court Records of Bertie County) 1. John Rouse, 17 years old, orphan of David was placed under the tuition of Christopher Harrison in June 1768. Harrison was also appointed guardian for John Oxley, orphan of John Oxley. 2. Joseph Rouse, son of Elizabeth Rouse, 7 years old, was placed in the tuition of Humphrey Hardy in March 1768. Some of these John's may be the same person, or maybe not. We know that John of Dobbs owed money to someone in Bertie and that John of Bertie was connected to the Herring family in Bertie, and John of Dobbs was a neighbor of the Herrings. Barbara on the Rouse Study group, I believe comes down your Clarissa daughter of John Willis line. If George Walter Kornegay was in Fla with another wife while Clarissa was still alive, either he had two wives or a divorce. If there was a divorce, there should be a record of it in the General Assembly papers at the archives but it would take a lot of hunting. The Rouse Study group is on hold until more information from both Wayne and Duplin can be obtained. More than likely, even then there will not be enough to put this early family together. The John Rouse said to be the father of John Willis, was John III not John Jr. More than likely there was more than one John Rouse of the 3rd generation but that is not proven. Martha >Hi Everyone, > I am looking for information on, John Rous born Abt. 1650 married Margaret Maxwell in Barbados abt 1694 . Margaret may have been the daughter of Thomas Maxwell and wife Mary. Their daughter Elizabeth Rouse married Richard Estwick abt 1722. I am trying to find out if John and Margaret also had a son named John Rouse, and if so, if this John had a grandson named John Rouse born in Dobbs County, North Carolina. > I am also trying to find information on my ggggrandmother Clarissa Rouse. Her parents were John Willis Rouse and Elizabeth Becton, of Craven and Lenoir Counties in North Carolina. Clarissa was married to my ggggrandfather George Walter Kornegay. I am interested in any information on Clarissa especially after 1850. In 1855 George Walter was in Florida married to a lady named Sophia Godwin. I think Clarissa was still alive at the time, but have no information on her, I have heard that she and her 4 children were on the1860 Craven County Census living with her mother. I would appreciate any help you can give. Thanks. > > >Glenda > > > > > >
