Christine, I don't know that I have any information that will shed much light on your research, but thought I would comment on a couple of notes in your post below. Well, Jesse Summerlin and Margaret (Peggy) Williams were the paternal grandparents of my mother, who was Sallie Ann Summerlin Hill. Her father was Jesse Giles Summerlin who married Martha Caroline Grant in 1871 in Wayne Co., NC. Mama never just referred to her father as Jesse Summerlin; it was always Jesse Giles Summerlin, probably used to distinguish him from his father. It would appear to me that the Giles Summerline mentioned in your notes must indeed be a Gson of Charity and Jacob too; but, if so, wonder which of the males listed as children of Charity and Jacob was his father. Have you seen the name Giles elsewhere in this family? While I am writing this, let me mention that Jesse Summerlin and his wife Peggy Williams had 15 children, including my grandfather Jesse Giles Summerlin. Several of them (5 or 6) were deaf-mutes, obviously hereditary. In your research, have you come across notations for any other Summerlin or Hines family members that they were deaf-mutes?
