Good Morning Mr. Burroughs and "Cousins"! Thank you so very much for an excellent update. I will pass this on to my folks and maybe they will become interested as new prospective members. I thoroughly enjoy the gracious and professional IRQ magazine and they are each a "Treasure" of the past! Wish I could make the monthly meetings, but definitely look forward to these updates! ...{:) Have a great weekend and give all of our "Cousins" my best and sincere regards, Dan Fairfax 2629 Somerset Drive Nashville, Tennessee 37217 dfairfax@nespower.com http://www.hchsonline.org ==================================== -----Original Message----- From: Horry County Historical Society [mailto:history@sccoast.net] Sent: Thursday, June 07, 2001 10:20 AM Subject: Update on HCHS news TO: All members of the Society RE: HCHS news Our plan for the renovation of the Quattlebaum Office is proceeding. Architect, Gerry Wallace, with Mozingo & Wallace Architects LLP, is generously donating his time by providing the necessary drawings and plans for the project. Once these plans have been approved by the State Preservation Office and the City of Conway, the renovations can begin. When complete, the historic building will be rented to the City of Conway as the office of the City's Visitor Program. Once the renovations for the Quattlebaum Office has begun, Gerry Wallace has also agreed to help us with some work on the Bryan House. The current plans are to enlarge the existing opening between the Dining Room and and Back Sitting Room so that the two rooms can act as one area and serve a larger crowd. Other than that and re-working a bathroom, the only other work that needs to be done to the inside seems to be cosmetic. At least for now. Already two local organizations rent the Bryan House for their monthly meetings. They are the Litchfield Camp of the Sons of the Confederate Veterans and The Town & Country Garden Club. We are happy to have both of these organizations using the Bryan House and hope others will follow once the renovation is complete. We are discussing a comprehensive landscape plan with Waccamaw Landscaping. Jean Rothrock is working with us on this and is donating some of her time to the Society to help us get started. As always we appreciate people donating their valuable time to the Society so that we can better serve the community. The Society recently was given a beautiful Steinway & Sons piano manufactured in 1867. It was donated by the Albert Goldfinch Family in memory of Betty Ford Goldfinch. Also donated recently was a "lawyers bookcase" by James Goldfinch in memory of his parents. Anyone that would like to donate an object to the Society, be it furniture or art, is encouraged to contact me. Your donation can be in memory or honor of someone special to you and will become a permenant memorial to them while also being enjoyed by the Society's members and visitors. The Editor of the Independent Republic Quarterly, Chris Boyle, will be sending out the first IRQ for 2001 in the next few weeks. Chris teaches history at Aynor High School and his obligations there have kept him from getting the IRQ out sooner. Please be patient and rest assured that you will receive 4 issues each year. Our web site continues to get great reviews from people who vist it. We have a little more than 2,000 hits each month on the average. HTC Communications donates our phone and internet connection services. If you have anything that you want to contribute to the site please contact me. I have several articles that have been sent in and hope to be adding them soon. Anything that is sent in is put in a folder and will eventually be added after review and approval. We NEED you to contribute articles and family history. The next meeting of the Society will be on July 9 at the First United Methodist Church on the corner of Main St. & 5th Ave. in Conway. The meeting will begin at 7:30 PM. We plan to do our own version of the "Antiques Road Show" courtesy of Paul Rice. Members may bring up to two items to be appraised, however there will be some restrictions on what will be appraised. Details will follow soon. As always, thanks for your support to the Society. Ben Burroughs, Exec. Dir.
