    1. [NCLENOIR] Re: Bryan Family
    2. Richard: It is wonderful to hear from you. My mother and I have worked on this line for years, and Elias BRYAN and Rosanna Holmes EVERETT are her 3-Great Grandparents, as well. Although my mother has most of the documentation (and I will forward your address to her for response), I can tell you that we believe Elias' parents were Robert BRYAN, Jr. and Anne HICKMAN. My mother will be excited to hear from a BRYAN of the same line... seems you are a rare find for us. I'm sure she will contact you. We believe that Robert BRYAN, Jr., was born about 1725 in Southampton Co., VA, and died about 1774 in Halifax Co, (now Martin Co.), NC. Now, funny thing is, there is, in Southampton County, VA, a land record between Robert BRYAN(T) of Edgecomb County, NC, and William BRYAN(T) of Southampton County, VA, dated 1751. Apparently Robert BRYAN(T) of Edgecomb County, NC, sold his inheritance land to his brother, William, who still lived in Southampton County, VA. We do wonder if Isle of Wight County, VA, records will show where Robert BRYAN(T), Sr., purchased the land, since Southampton was formed out of Isle of Wight County, VA, in 1749. There is a Will of Robert BRYAN(T), Sr., proven in November 1750 in Southampton County, VA. The Will names sons William, Thomas, Robert, John & Guil [Gale] and daughters Morning, Ann, Rebecca, Alice, Sarah and Mary. We believe this Roberty BRYAN(T), Sr., was born about 1688 in Gloucester Co, VA, and married Mary GALE, daughter of Thomas GALE, Jr., and wife, Alice. I do not have the documentation for this connection, but perhaps my mother does. My mother just e-mailed me to explain the connection from Elias to his father Robert BRYAN: The fact that Robert & Ann H. Bryan are the parents of Elias Bryan is recorded in a typed copy of the “Rosanna Holmes Everett Bryan Bible”, found in Lenoir County Community College, NC., which appeared to have been abstracted and typed by H.B. Hart, Jr. and found in the estate of Mrs. B. Braxton Jones. The original Bible(s) were in possession of Mrs. Redmond Bunn, and are moth eaten and illegible in places. We do not know where the bible is today. I once remember hearing there was a portrait of Elias BRYAN, but I have no data to substantiate it, and no idea where it would be. Please be in touch!
