Martha,Really enjoyed the site!!Brought back lots of memories.I started BARNING tobacco when I was 5.My job was to pick up leaves that were dropped by the handers and loopers.Think I made a quarter a day. When I got old enough to be a hander and looper--boy!!were those long days.Sometimes we did not finish until dark and had to work by lantern light. No one had electricity to their barns.I remember being so tired as a child that when we got home I would fall asleep without supper. It was a good life with lots of family and friends.Miss it!!The croppers would send the barn help watermelons in with the tobacco.Brought back lots of memories.
