    3. For those of you with families in the Sandy Bottom area in the early to mid 1800's and can get to ECU, you need to look at the Sandy Bottom Meeting House Collection. I had been told those records were destroyed but discovered yesterday they are at ECU - I assume the originals. Found a couple of pages dated ca 1830 in the Whaley folder at the DAR (only thing in it). Just scanned the pages and some of the surnames on the pages were: Westbrook Lofton, Whaley, Swinson, Gatlin, Whitfield, Gray, Wallace, Croom, Thompson, Cox, Taylor, Smith, Rouse, Caroline Hines, Ellis. Don't know about Sandy Bottom but Mewborn's kept genealogical records to die for - marvelous obits in the records that list parents, grandparents, children etc. Transcribing those records would be a great project - for someone.
