Charles and Jemima Hardy Phillips and their family ended up in Clay Co, Ky along with Jeremiah probably an uncle. We are not sure about Mason Jr but he may have ended up in either Ill. or Ind. It is possible that Charles was the son of Mason Jr. We think Charles was a grandson of Mason I but no clue to his father. Don't know about William. I think these two are: (1) Mason Phillips jr., the son of Mason who was born in 1728 in Prince George Co. Va) and (2) Abraham Phillips, my great-grandfather, son of Charles and Jemima Hardy Phillips. Also on this list is Meredith Childers/Childress Hughes, who married one of the daughters of Charles Phillips and Jemima Hardy Phillips. I know very well who he is, and have been in contact for years with some of his descendants. 1830: Tax List same company: Mason Phillips. Abraham no longer one, and has presumably gone to Clay Co. KY. BUT: 1830 Census, in this same place and with the same neighbors as on the tax list: William Phillips, with 11 people in his household. Neither Mason Phillips nor Abraham Phillips is list4ed on this census, but this is clearly the same family, as you can see from the names of neighbors in the census that also appear in the tax lists. 1831: Tax List same company: Mason Phillips. This Mason Phillips can't be the son of Charles and Jemima Hardy Phillips, who was paying taxes in Clay County KY at that time. 1832: Mason Phillips no longer on tax list. Deed: I also found a deed that shows that Mason Phillips sold 160 acres that he owned in the far northeast part of the county. He sold it to Davis/David Cobb, jr. (about whom I asked before). But as the Tax List proves, Mason Phillips lived in the SE part of the County, on Childers Creek, a creek north of the Hiwassee River. Because I have the 1830 census and the Clay Co. KY tax lists as well, I can figure out fairly well who was where at what time. Love Mary Jane
