NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Lenoir/10689 Surname: WORTHINGTON, ABBOTT, SHERMAN ------------------------- Am searching for information on the siblings and parents of my wife's great-great grandfather, RICHARD WORTHINGTON (1811 - 1856), who moved from Lenoir Co., N.C. to Georgia. His wife was PENELOPE ABBOTT (also born 1811). Their son, Craven A. Worthington (1832 - 1918), was my wife's gr.-gr. grandfather, and he moved here to Alabama from Georgia. We have a letter, dated 1856 (written when Richard Worthington died) from Penelope Worthington's brother, at Lenoir, N.C. This brother was named Richard M. Abbott. There is another letter from him dated in the 1870's. C. A. Worthington, a Civil War veteran, married Sarah Ann Sherman in Georgia. After his wife died, Craven's old-maid sister, Jane Worthington, moved in with him and kept house for him until he died in 1918. "Aunt Jane", as she was called, died in 1921. There were several other brothers and sisters. I have often wondered if C. A. Worthington ever went back to Lenoir Co. N.C. on a visit. Any information on either of these two families genuinely appreciated.
You mention a Craven Worthington... In one document found, there a was a reference to Lenoir and Craven Lassiter. I found a mention of Lenoir Lassiter in a Nathan G. Bright's will in Macon Co. AL. but never again saw the name Craven Lassiter. Do you know if there could be a connection between Worthington and Lassiter families? Rose Parks
