I truly believe Allen Fairfax has summarized our FAIRFAX dilemma from Virginia>North Carolina>South Carolina Migration ... focusing on JAMES FAIRFAX, circa 1739, Virginia.... If somebody out there could bless a whole bunch of people by doing a lookup of James Fairfax's Will of 1739 in the Richmond, Virginia archives ... us FAIRFAX folks may be able to close the circle of "Our never-ending" story ... PPPUUHH-LLLEEAAASEE?? ...{:) THANKS IN ADVANCE for any possible consideration and contribution to the discussion below! Please reply to dfairfax@nespower.com <mailto:dfairfax@nespower.com> .... yours truly, Dan Fairfax, Nashville, Tennessee. Dan Fairfax 2629 Somerset Drive Nashville, Tennessee 37217 dfairfax@nespower.com <mailto:dfairfax@nespower.com> ========================= -----Original Message----- From: Allen Fairfax [mailto:fairfaxa@hotmail.com] Sent: Friday, May 11, 2001 12:08 AM To: DFairfax@nespower.com Subject: Calvin Jernigan, etc. Dan, Lots of info today to digest ... right now, responding to the Calvin Jernigan query ... it seems to me that Calvin Jernigan was the Jernigan living near Hugh "Fox" in the 1870 Horry county census ... I don't have my copies of those census records here ... but, I believe I sent you a photocopy of the page with Hugh "Fox" on the census , so (unless your files are as disorganized as mine), perhaps you can see if Calvin is there ...I may be completely wrong about this .... Also, Mary Ann Fairfax ... I do have a record of her from early on in my research ... I have also looked at parish records at St. Phillips church in Charleston, and she and Zachariah got married shortly after they got off the boat from England ... their baby was baptized a few days later ..... :) All the Jernigan stuff !!!!! I have had a feeling that a lot of people in the Dobbs/Wayne area named their sons Needham after Needham Bryan ... Fairfax: we have James Fairfax on a rent roll in Virginia in 1704 and his will in 1739 (a high priority is to eyeball this will ... guess it is in Richmond?? do you think we could find someone to do a "lookup"?)... a Peter Fairfax was baptized in London in 1702, and a Peter Fairfax is listed as a ship's passenger arriving in Virginia in 1702 (was he just a baby coming over as the son of James?) .... we have further records of Peter in 1740?? receiving a settlement on some account?? from someone's estate (in Virginia) ... we then have Peter Fairfax in 1769 and 1780 tax lists in Dobbs county ... near Loftins and Jernigans ... Cornelius Loftin is the ancestor of the Loftins who lived near Peter Fairfax, and Cornelius lived near James Fairfax in Accomack county, Virginia ... now, we also have John Fairfax showing up on a tax list in Northampton county in 1780 (NC) ... then, we have evidence of a bunch of Fairfaxes serving in the NC continental line ... Frederic! k Fairfax (who survived the war), William Fairfax (who did not, his heir listed as Lewis Fairfax), Dormand and Herrenton Fairfax (who did not survive, heirs listed as John and Daniel, in 1797, Johnston county ... which may have been part of Dobbs county before that county disintegrated! I think this John and/or Daniel migrated to New Orleans ... to be proven as soon as I have an hour or two to spend at NARA) ... we have an Olive Fairfax in 1790 Northampton county, witnessing a will of someone named Bass ... we have Nedom Fairfax in a will in 1793 in Bladen county, with Jernigans who came from near Peter Fairfax in Dobbs.... we have Walter Fairfax showing up in Caswell county in 1800 (near Northampton?) ... he may be there in 1790 as well, but the 1790 Caswell county census records were lost ... lastly, we have Micajah Fairfax showing up in 1800 Bladen .... So, we have all kinds of possibilities of sons and grandsons of Peter ... if all the above Peter's are the same, then Peter would have been in his late 70s when he died during the War ... Micajah would most likely be a grandson?? and his father would be: .......maybe we need a strategy of ruling out the "weakest links" and whoever is left gets to be Micajah's father?? a guess is that Micajah's mother re-married, after her husband, one of those Fairfaxes who died during the War ... Northampton county, NC, is right below Nansemond county, VA (Jernigan primordial ooze country)... I just got in from giving an exam up in Maine, and am too tired to go to bed!!! so, pondering this as I get sleepier ....see ya .. Allen P.S. do we know if the Walter Fairfax census record in 1800 had male children listed?? > > >====================== > > > From: Ann Bishop [mailto:angel@strato.net] >Sent: Wednesday, May 02, 2001 10:23 PM >To: dfairfax@nespower.com >Subject: Interest > > > >Dan, > I was told by two people that you had some information about Calvin >Jernigan b.1807 In Horry Co.
