    1. [NCLENOIR] How to fix the W32 Badtran-virus
    2. I also got this virus, from my geneology friends, and Norton did not pick it up. However I updated my subscription for $9.95 and rescanned and it found it. The most current Norton .dat file is 1/2/2002. Norton would not correct two of the files infected. They were c:\windows\system\kernel32.dll and c:\windows\system\kdll.dll. The kdll.dll file is not a Windows file. The virus created it. If you are running Windows 98 it is simple to fix. You will need your Windows 98 Installation cd. Here is what you do: 1) Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools and then click System Information. 2) On the Tools menu click System File Checker. 3) Click "Extract one file from installation disk," type kernel32.dll in the specify system file you would like to restore box, and then click Start. 4) In the Restore From box type the path to your Windows 98 CD-ROM, type the destination folder in the Save File box, if necessary, and then click OK. 5) Click Ok, click OK and then click yes when you are prompted to restart your computer. I got this information from Microsoft support site. The name of the article is "How to Extract Original Compressed Windows Files (Q129605). This article gives you info on how to recover a file from Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, Internet Explorer 4 and 5 and Windows ME. Don't forget to update your Norton subscription, rescan your computer and let Norton fix what it can first.
