    3. Jack, There is a NC Original Supreme Court Case , No. # 1024, Year 1817, Winefred Edwards vs. James G. Sheppard, Theophilus Edwards and Others, in the NC Archives at Raleigh, NC. Wayne Co., NC In the Case, Winefred Edwards was the widow of one Thomas Edwards who had been killed by a slave (tombstone) 23 June 1816, and Winefred wants her share of deceased husband's large estate. She married Thomas in January 1809 when he was an old man, a bachelor, born in 1753. They had no issue. They lived in Greene County where Thomas was born. Theophilus Edwards, brother and supposed heir of Thomas Edwards, gave a deposition 22 Dec. 1820, in which he said Thomas Edwards left a widow Winifred, who after his decease intermarried with William Westbrook of Greene County (NC). Depositions to be read on the part of the defendants will be taken at the house of Winefred Westbrook in the town of Fayetteville Cumberland County (NC) , on the 21st and 22nd days of September 1821. I don't know Winefred's maiden name and I don't know anything about William Westbrook's family or what happened to the Westbrooks. Did they end up in MS ? I thought you might be interested because of the Westbrook connection. By the way, there were Exums in Wayne Co., too, although I have little knowledge of them. Thank you again for your help.
