    1. [NCLENOIR] Marriage Database assistance
    2. Martha Marble
    3. In case you have not noticed, there is a NC Marriage base that is searchable on each County. Guy would like to start a project to add to the Greene and Lenoir database by culling the various files on the archives starting with the Bible records. This is an opportunity for some of you to contribute to our records just by sitting in front of your pc for a few hours spread over time. If you would be willing to work on this project, please contact Guy at GPOTTS1@nc.rr.com There are a small number of people on the two lists who contribute a great deal to the benefit of all. This is an opportunity for some of the rest of you to make a contribution. It is called pay back time. How about some assistance on this project. Just taking 10 Bible records and culling might help someone else and this is what it is all about - helping each other. Martha and Guy

    2. Martha Marble
    3. Patty left this morning for a week. She said if you had anything to post on Dobbers or the archives sites she manages go ahead and send them and she will post upon her return. Think she got caught up on a lot of posting this past week. She is also working on changing the format of Old Dobbers which has gotten a little confusing due to its success. She has her first GEDCOM and is working on a format from her softwear. Martha

    1. Re: [NCLENOIR] MICAJAH - North Carolina
    2. Dan, Every "Micajah" I have run across in my research has been a male's first name. I find an entry in Albert E. Sims' book, Who's Who in the Bible (New York, 1960): "MICAHIAH (also spelt MICAIAH) --1. Daughter of Uriah (II Chron. xiii. 2). 2. A prophet, the son of Imlah in the days of Ahab (I Kings xxii. 8-28). The other five persons bearing this name are of minor importance. The references are: II Chron. xvii. 7; II Kings xxii. 12; Jer. xxxvi. 11; Neh. xii. 35; Neh. xii. 41." My guess is that either the author of the notice misread the primary source or that a micajah is something or someone with the same purpose, function, or characteristic as one of the seven individuals in the Bible (one women, six men). If "Micajah" isn't followed by a last name, he may have been a slave. Perhaps the source was informally written. He could have been serving in the place of someone named Micajah during Micajah's absence.

    1. [NCLENOIR] [NC-SC] MICAJAH - North Carolina
    2. Fairfax, Dan
    3. It definitely has the Biblical Old Testament flavor to it ... such as Elias, Hezekiah, Zechariah, Levi, etc. ... it appears that the "Protestant" folks shortly after the revolutionary War of 1776 in the 13 "States" were brought back to a religious/spiritual "Sense of being delivered from bondage - [England's rule] " that they provided biblical names a lot ... typically "Farmers" ...{:) BUT! ... this new reference "Lived as a MICAJAH" in another person's home in Bertie County, NC in the late 1700's - early 1800's is a new term to me and I do believe it may have a biblical sense ... but I don't know what??? THANKS FOR RESPONDING!!! ...{:) Anybody else? 3. Mike has sent Guy a new search engine for the individual archives files. He is working on Wayne then will go to Greene and Lenoir. Has done the Bibles for Lenoir just to show me how it works. It is great. It helps narrow a search down. We did finish tweaking Lenoir but not Greene mostly because of my little problem. Sometime in the next two weeks we will tweak the Greene archives site. Many thanks to Guy and Mike. Also to Sloan for helping tweak the Lenoir site with IE. Appears Netscape is not forgiving on some things according to Mike and as a rule I use Netscape. Also, Rose has posted the latest files for St. Mary's and we want to thank her for undertaking this task. These records do have some folks from Greene, Pitt and Craven as well as Lenoir. Hugs to Rose who is bouncing today. Martha

    3. THe world will not end with fire or flood but when all the world's computers that run our everyday lives fail. Except for installing Netscape and my URL bookmarks, am back up. For those of you who do not have a zip drive to do your backups - highly suggest you buy one. It worked like a charm but Betsy did say the disks can go bad. Had some problems with TMG and after two days finally got it back a short time ago - I think. Just lost whatever I had done the previous 4 days in both word and TMG. Will backup for often from now on. For those of you who have not had the wonderful experience of a crashed pc - may you never have one but don't hold your breath. This is my 2nd time but the last time, I had warning. This hard drive (the 2nd one they installed after the crash) is making funny little noises so who knows how long this one will last. Expect to get a good night's sleep tonight after two weeks of tossing and turning. Martha
