Many thanks to Christine and her volunteers for doing the Lenoir and Greene Bible records for Marriages. The Lenoir ones have been posted and Greene will be done in the next couple of days. So much more needs to be done in some of the other files, but the Bibles are a huge help. We really need more assistance of this nature. ALso, thanks to Guy for posting and working up the format. He has taken the entire state on a a project. Martha
This cemetery is just inside the Craven Co border and according to Judi is NOT in either Craven Co Cemetery Book. Mary Parrott was the only one of Jacob and Persis Parrott's children that Francis had nothing on. He just said she must not have had children because she only died a few months after her father and in his will he stated "if she had no heirs". It is also possible she died in childbirth or that James remarried since it appears there are younger Murphy's buried in the cemetery. It is also possible there are more graves in this cemetery. Not a good time of year for cemetery digging. Clair, do you or any of the Murphey researchers know if this is part of the Greene Co family? This has been sent to Patty for posting to Craven and then it will be linked to Lenoir and maybe to Greene if part of the same family. Also sent to Belinda for the Parrott database. My family used to say she sounded like she was calling hogs, which I considered an insult, amd made her stop. I've also seen "Sukey" as a nickname for Susan in older records. Sue
Ann, Sudie was a commonly used nickname for Susan. The hog call I've heard was Su-eee! Just tell the staff you want to see anything she has already put at the library on the Garner family. I don't know how much of her research has already been placed at Heritage Place - not all of it. All of what she has placed there will be found in notebooks on the shelf according to surname. Ima was highly organized but it takes awhile to figure out her system - most of her research was done before computers. There may also be information in the Vertical files which the staff can pull for you. Does anyone know a Lorin Taylor? He married Lissie Bell. I just got in the death certificate of my gg-grandfather Felix Taylor (died 4-8-1914) in Lenoir County, N.C. listing his parents names as Lorin Taylor and Lissie Bell Taylor, hope someone can help or connect. Pam
Billy has supplied a list of Civil War Casualties at White Hall. It has been posted on Wayne Co Archives, Civil War. THere are no first names, just initials and surnames that just don't ring a bell with me. We are trying to decide if this list should be linked elsewhere. If anyone can id where these men were from, please let Guy know so he can link to other counties. Thanks. Martha
Christine has agreed to be the co-ordinator for the Marriage project and will assign the Bible records so they will not be duplicated. We all greatly appreciate Christine taking this project on and just know she will have lots of volunteers to work with her. One hour of your time over the next month copy and pasting should not strech you too much. Please contact Christine - CGT714@aol.com - to volunteer instead of Guy. Thanks, Christine.
