Posted on: Lenoir Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/NC/Lenoir/10708 Surname: DAWSON, HARDY ------------------------- After I sent you the private message, did find your Alex on the Mewborn database. The Alexander M. on the jury list was not your Alex but the one mentioned in the email - Alexander who married Sarah Hardy and he was the father of your Alexander J. according to Ima. Born ca 1853 according to the census. Some of the information on Alexander J. came from the Dawson - Emery Bible but am not sure of the documentation on the rest. Don't know the parents of Alexander M, but Sarah's parents were Lemuel Hardy III and Annie Mewborn. The Obit from either Zion's Landmark or the Mewborn Church Records, gives a list of Sarah Hardy Dawson's children, who they married, and how many children they had. Martha

>Resent-Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 06:53:55 -0700 >X-Original-Sender: BJMarkland@aol.com Sat May 26 06:53:55 2001 >From: BJMarkland@aol.com >Date: Sat, 26 May 2001 09:53:49 EDT >Subject: Abstract of NC Continental Line >Old-To: HARDISON-L@rootsweb.com, MARKLAND-L@rootsweb.com, NCDOBBS-L@rootsweb.com, I have put this semi-proofed document at my site (proofed from surnames A-O). The document is the Abstract of North Carolina Continental Line. This was put together in 1828 by the clerks of NC's Secretary of State Hill. So, in essence, this is a transcript of a transcript with attendant errors in interpretation. The link to my site (correct this time!) is: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~familyinformation/ Click on the Transcripts link, then History and the document will be listed under the New section (until I figure out how to reorganize some things). As I said at the top, this is not 100% proofed. I was able to get surnames A-O and will finish up next week. After that, I will put is some enhancements like direct links to surnames begining with A, B, etc. as well as put up a copy sorted by Regiment, Rank, and then Surname. Hope this helps someone. Happy Memorial Day, Billy I meant to include this in the original email but forgot. I imagine that many will not see ancestor's in this database that they are certain were in the NC Line. Personally, I am 100% certain that not all names are there that should be. I imagine that was because of muster rolls being found after the abstract was completed in 1828. For example, if you look at the document at my site NC Officers of the Continental Line, you will find several missing from the abstract! I have also looked at muster rolls for various regiments of the Line and idly spot-checked. Many on the regimental roster did not appear on the abstract. That is another project for another day, a compilation of all names that appear on that film. Billy
There is an article in todays Kinston Free Press - http://www.kinston.com/ regarding the move to build an African American Civil War Museum in downtown Kinston. Sounds like a great idea. Martha

The Richard Caswell/Ram Neuse Site in Kinston was, in the mid- to late-1800s known as the Desmond Plantation and its owners were Lewis C. Desmond and his wife Eliza W. Desmond. Apparently the Desmonds had a daughter named Mary who married a Fonville. In her 1895 will (copy on file at Lenoir County Court House) Mary E. Fonville directed that the plantation be sold and all the proceeds be divided among the living grandchildren of John Gatlin (1769-1836) and Susannah Caswell Gatlin (1775-1843), all of whom were living in states other than North Carolina. Does anyone have information on the Desmond family and how they may be related to the Gatlins? Jim Gaddis monument@esn.net

I receive the Ancestry Daily News and up until just a month ago (or less) they offered the new data bases for 10 days free. Now I can not get them. It is for Premium subscribers they say. Can anyone tell me more about this? I read all the Daily News (I thought) and there hasn't been a word (that I have seen) Must have missed something somewhere. Suppose they had too many just looking at the freebies. So many of the data bases are not where I am looking, I haven't thought it worthwhile to join. Simeon married Eliza in Houston County, Georgia, in 1827. They lived in Georgia, Alabama(Dale, Barbour, and Covington Counties) and Florida before settling in Clarke County, Mississippi. Posted on: Lenoir Co. NC Query Forum Reply Here: http://cgi.rootsweb.com/~genbbs/genbbs.cgi/USA/NC/Lenoir/10704 Surname: Barfields, Hines, Outlaw ------------------------- Rebecca Hardy Barfield is actually the niece of Barbara Hardy Hines, Barbara Hardy Hines's brother was Jesse S. Hardy, Jesse married Elizabeth Jane Hines, daughter of Daniel and Rebecca Hines, Jesse and Elizabeth Hardy were the parents of Rebecca Anne Hardy Barfield, In 1851, Jesse Hardy died and his widow, Elizabeth Jane Hardy, would later marry Lewis Outlaw and they became the parents of 9 children. Rebecca was 5 years old when her father died. Rebecca is buried in the Hines cemetery in Lenoir County.
Martha: Read with great interest your message concerning the Enloe family. I have done a little research on that line. My ancestor Benjamin Chaney lived in Carteret was Lt. in NC in Rev. He was living in Hyde when he died ca 1812. I have not learned the name of his parents or his wife. In 1784 he was made executor to will of Thomas Smith. Among the testators was a Marey (sic) Chaney, possibly his wife. I am wondering if perhaps she was an Enloe by birth. In Craven Co. NC in 1785, 1787 and 1789 Rhoda Cheyney m Antoni Inloes; Elizabeth Chaney m Anthony Inloes; and Ann Chaney m Abraham Inloes. Oddly in Maryland there were several Chaney and Enloe marriages. Also some Chaney and Ijams marriages took place. The given names are strikingly similar. Brumbaugh V.1 Maryland Records states that Henry Enloes was naturalized 1674. There is an indication that the Enloes came to Maryland from Pennsylvania. In your research, have you found any information indicating that Marey Chaney might have been an Enloe? I will sincerely appre- ciate any information you or any other researcher will share which might help me solve my research problem. The sons of Benjamin Chaney were Peyton; Greenberry, William Thomas and Benjamin, Jr. My ancestor was his daughter, Rebecca, b.c. 1785. I failed to add that John Smith named above was from Kent Co. Maryland where we find many early Chaneys and Enloes. Frances ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
