    2. Glenda Dugas
    3. Hi Martha, Thank you for the info., I see so many similar names in these different branches of Rouse's, that I feel there must be a common connection somewhere. I have John Rouse III and Winifred Smith listed as the parents of John Willis Rouse. I am not sure if Clarissa was ever in Alabama, but if she did travel with George Walter when he left North Carolina . It is also possible that they were divorced in Alabama. So that makes things even more complicated. If we are talking about the same Barbara, she is my moms second cousin. Take care. 3. Sarah, don't think I have the first entry below. Some of the Oxley's ended up in Lenoir as did the allied family of Parrott. I want to take a good look at that Humphrey Hardy this summer. There is a tie in with the Enloe and Sheppards of Pitt and Greene Counties. As I understand it, Humphrey had a son Joseph but not clear on this. Martha >From: "S. I "tried" to read some of the deeds from microfilm. Also the wills which is a joke. Ima had me get two wills copied and even with the published abstract, I could not read them. The early Norfolk records are in dreadful shape which is probably why none of the deeds have been abstracted. The Cross Indices are not good, few of the books have an index and the microfilm is all but impossible to read in places mostly because the originals are in such poor shape. Some of it is readable. What little I have done was on the microfilm at the archives in Richmond. Martha

    2. John Hamlet called Rouse Funeral Home to see if they knew where "the" Hines Cemetery in LaGrange was located. They indicated that the only one they knew about was 2-3 miles north of town in Lenoir county. Below is what he found and his Aunt Louise found . Does anyone know anything about thes Hines?? Thank you all and Good luck William L. Hines 9/18/1903-1/4/1994   Laura Hines 2/23/1917-10/24/1985   Thomas J. F. Hines 5/28/1904-3/28/1972   Down in Jinny Linn section I found a Herring cemetery I had looked for but could not find...a little wrong on the 7.5 minute map as far as location is concerned. Listing this here simply because I don't know her last name:   Nancy Wife of Simon Herring Born Nov 1791 Died 8/18/1873

    3. Happy Summer everyone, Thank goodness for the Doughboy pool in our back yard. Most of you have probably heard about the 4 firefighters who died fighting the forest fire. It has hit our community hard. Our area is not that big. One of the men treated and released was here. Three of the dead were from surrounding communities and those who didn't know the firefighters probably know someone who did. It is quite a tragedy. All Barrs has updated the BARRS and BELL Surname Project on Old Dobbers: http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~paday/dobbers/1barrs_bell.htm He has done a great job and looks forward to hearing from other family researchers. He was very patient with me as my mailbox kept filling up on him. I have a 6mb email limit at yahoo. I need to empty out the old messages that I have there. FYI if you have attatchments of 1mb or more to send, please let me know before sending and I will make sure the room is there or give you another address to use. Sue has sent three more New Bern District Court Records and they can be found in the Craven Co. Archives. She is a real trooper to take on the challenge of transcribing these items for us. Thank you Sue. Our counties are fortunate to have the people who are willing to transcribe records for posting. Thank you for taking the time away from your personal research to assist those of us who live far away and do not have access to these documents. Martha does a great job of coordinating this effort and keeping you supplied with documents. Everybody PAT yourselves on the back and please know how much you are appreciated.
