    1. [NCLENOIR] Re: mozingos in noah rouse bible?
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Thanks for the tip. SARAH - time to run down and see the kids and check this out in the Southern Historical Collection. Tomorrow would not be too soon. I would think if there was a Bible there some of the Rouse researchers would have heard about it, but then, maybe not. THere appears to have been a number of ROuse/Mozingo marriages - probably more than we even have a hint of. THere are a lot of Rouse and Mozingo researchers on the Lenoir and Greene lists and don't think you are on the list so you might want to join us. BTW, how do you know that you descend from Susan daughter of Pierce? That information might help some of the other researchers. There are several Rouse families of various spellings in Va but I have not checked out these particular counties. Thanks for the suggestion. If the Bible indeed exists and is at UNC, it will be copied and posted soon as Sarah or some of the rest of us can get to Chapel Hill because it might break open an entire Rouse line - as well as a Mozingo line. 3. Although these are Duplin and Cumberland Co they have Greene Co ties and descendants in both Greene and Lenoir William Hardison was born either in Hyde or Greene Co - we don't know for sure, but he lived in Greene until he moved with his mother, Lucretia Garris Hardison and his siblings to Duplin. We assume his father, James, may have died in Greene, but again that is not clear. William married Mary (Polly) Dail, daughter of Thomas and his wife, said to be Sarah Tripp - not proven. Thomas moved to Duplin from either Pitt or Greene. THere are a number of intermarriages between the Dails and Hardisons in Duplin. 1. [NCLENOIR] Re: Harmony Hall & Caswell cemetery
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Clair did not mention that the question has risen AGAIN as to the age of Harmony Hall. This comes up from time to time and Clair, Susan and other members of the list are trying to backtrack on where all this information came from in order to document who did or did not live there and when. Of course, the Historical Assocation has tried to document this for years without a great deal of success. Opinion is divided even among the professionals from the archives. Update on the cemetery. Ted has spent about $1500 on the purchase of sand to backfill the two coffins, finding old brick to put up a fence, cleaning up etc. However, both the clinic and the owner of the Bentley have told him to do no further work on their property. They are doing nothing to it and the weeds are taking over again. The city laws require the property owner keep it cleaned up but that is not being enforced. There is no money to take this to court to determine the rightful owner or owners of the property based on the Will of Richard Caswell. Ted has determined where three other graves are and still feels there is an underground vault that probably contains a number of old coffins or remains. The next flack may be over Maplewood where stones are destroyed or damaged on a daily basis and have been for years. THe "Yankees" started the destruction when they turned over stones during the war to make biscuits. Most of us have ancestors buried in this cemetery. The one old cemetery now in good shape is the Colonial Cemetery which has been contracted out to a private landscape company and looks great. Maybe the city needs to consider starting a fund to protect the cemetery that we can all contribute to and then turn it over to a private firm. Since Glenn lives in LaGrange, he would be the logical person to chair this project and divide up the cemetery. Since this is a pretty large cemetery in town (I assume) it should be kept up well so there should be no problem with slithering critters. Of course, your convenience could be fall when it cools off a bit. Hope to hear from some of you. Martha Martha, I'll volunteer to help survey Fairview. I can go ahead and start but I want to make sure that someone else is not doing it unbeknownst to me and be duplicating. If some others would volunteer and we could divide the cemetery up into sections, each could work on his section at his own leisure. We can co-ordinate our efforts and compile when all are finished.
