    3. I sent an email the day I got notice of this, I am so glad the withdrawl happened. Let me know what I can do to assist. I really am tired of people trying to wipe away the past for the future. 1. [NCLENOIR] Thanks and Suttons and Dails
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Thanks to Jerry and Anne for providing me with Duplin 1810 Census information on Simon Sutton and the Dails. THought I had checked Duplin for Suttons but obviously had not finished. Haven't quite figured it out yet but think the Simon Sutton, son of John I moved to Duplin between 1800 and 1810 which plugs one of the early Sutton holes. Bit of a disagreement on the 1800 Lenoir Census as to the age of Simon and the Duplin Census on his widow, Mary or Polly. If it is the same Simon and think it is, then he had three children who lived to adulthood or who shared in the estate including Penelope who married Curtis Dail as his 2nd or 3rd wife. It has been written that Thomas and Sarah Tripp (not proven) Dail of Duplin moved there from Greene. That appears to be in error as it appears they moved from Pitt. More work needs to be done but if the Duplin crowd can be sorted, then it might be possible to make better guesses on the Greene crowd. Martha

    1. [NCLENOIR] Thanks to volunteers and need more
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Roselyn has volunteered to help Glenn canvass Fairview but they really need some more help. Going to take local people and this is a BIG cemetery. Thanks Roselyn. The first text files of the Industrial Issue of the Free Press are going up tonight but Guy is still working on them. Allen and Christine are working on them but again, we need more help. Has to be someone with a scanner. The text will be on the archives and can be either scanned or re-typed. The pictures have to go on Dobbers and have to be scanned - Patty is handling those. It is rather slow for me to get the issue copied. It was published in 1906 and the pages are falling apart from age. I have purchased 10 oversized cover sheets, taken my copy apart and copying them 10 pages at the time and then triming them in order to mail without folding. Please don't volunteer unless you intend to do it because it is my time and money that is wasted. Next trip down, the original will go to ECU for safe keeping. Our thanks to Roselyn, Glenn, Allen and Christine and of course, Guy and Patty. Martha

    1. [NCLENOIR] List members in the news!
    2. Martha Marble
    3. There are two articles in today's Free Press - http://www.kinston.com/ - both by Steve Martini under local news - regarding our list members. The first is on list member Jim and his wife Sue and their restoration of damaged old tombstones in the area. Given the condition of many of the old cemeteries in the area, they should have enough business to last a couple of life times. Jim and I went cemetery hopping a couple of years ago in some of the old Phillips cemeteries. Almost cried at one of them with the destruction that had been done since the first time I visited that cemetery a number of years ago. Jim, still want you to see if there are any other "buried" stones at the Stephen Carr Phillips cemetery - the one up in the woods. The other article is on the vote tomorrow night and Jane and Pat's new Committee. The vote count now looks promising but nothing is a sure bet. If the zoning application is denied, the real work will then start to get the site designated in some way as an official Civil War Battlefield. There was a brief mention of the destruction of Civil War Battlefields today in the Parade Section. They are being lost at an alarming rate. ANy assistance any of you can give to them would be appreciated. List member, Kay, has gotten the UDC interested and they may have some members attend the meeting tomorrow night. Not sure there is a chapter in Kinston anymore but maybe the UDC can give some assistance from the State and National level. Jane, please advise us of the vote ASAP tomorrow night. Martha

    1. [NCLENOIR] Flooding in DC
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Well, you have been there, done that. Basement is the only place I have to keep them, but do a lot of zip backups on the pc and those stay on the foyer table in case of an emergency. Full zips are in my husband's office. Family pictures and paper work are safe on the 2nd floor - unless there is a fire. Old tin types in the safe deposit box and most of the original stuff ie Bibles, 1850 autograph books etc are now at ECU. Have made great progress in the past six months on imputting a lot of the information in the database - at least can close the 4 filing drawers. The database is duplicated at Heritage Place but have to put the new softwear on next trip down and update. One of those projects would like to see expanded with everyone's database at some point. Received the Bright information today. Will get to it as have time. Don't think Britt and Bright are the same. 2. Martha Marble
    3. Patty has done an excellent job on a special page on the various Civil War Battles around Kinston on Old Dobbers - right at the top. It has a link to the Free Press, some URL's, the note from Jane, City Council members etc. We are waiting for some permissions on other information. Even after the vote on Monday, this site will evolve as the Committee moves forward to preserve the Battlegrounds and other historic sites. If any of you have appropriate information for the site, please send it to Patty. Again, thanks to Pat and Jane for all their hard work and to Patty for working on the special page. Martha
