    1. [NCLENOIR] housekeeping problem
    2. Martha Marble
    3. In the past month several people have had problems receiving their posts - actually they have not received them. In three cases, they were on the list and I have no clue to the problem. The other time they had been kicked off - for some unknown reason. Usually in the case of still being on the list and not receiving the posts, the ISP is at fault. I have unsubscribed the person and subscribed them back again and that seemed to solve the problem. If you have a problem, please advise me and we will take it from there. The only problem I have with these lists are the number of bounced messages in my inbox. An ISP bounces everyone who uses them ie erols, or just one address bounces - over and over. Mailbox is full, address can't be found all kinds of reasons. After 8 times, it is suppose to knock you off the list. Usually I can tell when there is a real problem as opposed to something temporary but in the case of full mailboxes, I have been known to take you off myself after 8 times if Rootsweb doesn't. Some people change their address and don't bother to unsub the old address. If you change your address, PLEASE unsub the old one before you sub with the new one. Thanks. Martha

    2. Martha Marble
    3. Found this in the Elijah Johnson DAR folder Elijah son of Isiah and Mary Johnson - born in Dobbs Co 13 April 1754 d 4 Feb 1836 - md Elizabeth Harper daughter of Alexander and Margaret Harper - b 13 Nov 1757 d 23 Aug 1834. Elijah had a Will in SUmter District, SC written 1 Oct 1836. Dates have to come from a Bible but it was not in the folder. children - Daniel, Isiah Jr., Elijah, Margaret md a Rinder, Harper, Gatsy, Betsy md a Hourhand and Blaney - only one I saw with dates - b 30 Nov 1802 - kind of pushed his mother's childbearing years. THis almost has to be the Alexander Harper mentioned as the brother in law of John Kilpatrick which means that Margaret was probably John's sister and thus the daughter of Alexander and Elizabeth Easley Kilpatrick. And Blaney and Francis were siblings of Elizabeth Harper Johnson. Somewhere in my many jumbled notes on the Harper family I sort of remember a Margaret Harper. Francis, my off the wall theory that the entire line is off a generation and Alexander was the SON of Francis who first moved to NC might not be so off the wall. Either that or I am misreading all of this. Martha

    2. Martha Marble
    3. Rose, I copied the Bible of Mathew Smith and the will of Zilpha SMith today. Bible is original with a transcription which was also copied - not sure if the Will is original. Am going to let you deal with getting both posted on the Wayne archives and a copy to all interested parties. Think Francis wants a copy of the Bible. Martha

GLENN, had to say in 1906 about Lenoir Co., NC, This is good reading. :-) Kinston, the county seat of Lenoir, is one of the most progressive towns in North Carolina, and its growth has been simply marvelous. All can remember when it was only a little village on the railroad from Goldsboro to New Bern, that scarcely called for a second glance from the car window, but now it is rapidly growing into a city, with banks, warehouses, factories, two railroads, (and soon to have a third), paved streets, electric lights, water-works, fine business houses of every description, well conducted newspapers, splendid schools and churches, and an up-to-date, energetic population, bound to prosper and go forward, and soon to be a powerful factor in the industrial, political and religious life of the State. http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/nc/lenoir/lenoirindustrial.htm Industrial Press-Lenoir Co., NC Archives Good luck to all Christine Grimes Thacker

    1. [NCLENOIR] Rice Family
    2. Rose Parks
    3. Am looking for information on a Nathaniel Rice born about 1794 in NC who was located in Sumner Co., TN by 1810 or so. He married Ann Uzzell, daughter of Isom/Isham Uzzell and Nancy Blackman. Ann was born about 1796-98, probably in Lenoir Co. as Isom was there on census and had land there as well as Wayne Co.NC There is a Joshua Rice listed with Isham in some Sumner Co. TN deeds etc. Is this Nathaniel's father? Believe also a William Rice was mentioned at some point. Any Rice researchers out there? Several families of this area moved to Sumner Co., TN about 1804. 1. [NCLENOIR] Thanks to Rosalyn and Sloan
    2. Martha Marble
    3. Two more of the USUAL people are going to work on the Industrial Issue - Rosalyn and Sloan. I am going to do some of the text and get someone else to do the scanning. That still leaves 20 to 30 more pages which just might not get done as I am losing the energy for all of this work with so few volunteers. Rosalyn is going to work with Glenn on the Fairview Cemetery and hated to have to ask her to help with this. Actually Sloan was "volunteered". There is not an archives pages in the entire state that I have been on that Sloan has not posted items. Her contributions to the NC Archives may exceed any other single person. There is just simply no way to say thank you to her. Martha
