Billy, I am cc the Lenoir and Greene lists on this because of the Cowards. There were two Coward families in Greene - Edward out of Bertie, far as I know. THe other one was William Coward who married Ann Griffin of Craven Co. Ruth Fentress and I did a lot of work on the early family of Bertie years ago trying to hook up our William to that line and we couldn't. Allen has also done work on this family and Ray has published a book on the Griffin family out of ESVA. We don't have a good handle on William's birth, but he started having children by 1746 more or less. There is one entry in the Cross Indices from William Sr to William Jr ca 1750 to 1754 and our assumption is our William was the son of a William but that is not proven. THe William we can find in Bertie of the same age also had a wife Ann but they stayed in died in Bertie so there is just no fit. As I recall, Talbot Co is a burned County - naturally. This Richard Coward would not be the father of William of Dobbs unless Richard had another son not mentioned in his will but I wonder if there is a family connection especially since Charles Markland ended up in Dobbs. Thanks for the information - this gives us another place to look when we get back on the Cowards. Abstracted three small Collections this trip and just sent Guy the Shirley Kilpatrick Collection which is mostly Lenoir and will be posted on Lenoir Archives. For the first time, there were deeds for my own direct line with information I did not already know. Had always thought my Lemuel Hardy Mewborn only lived in Pitt, but he may have lived in Lenoir for awhile right next to our Moore family property. The other two Collections are the Murphrey and Loftin Collections. The Murphrey probably should be called Murphrey/Taylor Collection and is a rather large Collection but most of the deeds are Craven. I only abstracted the Lenoir ones since Craven has their records. It is the Guilford Murphrey and Stanton Taylor families. The Loftin Collection is at the Carteret Co Historical Association and is not available to the public at this point since they are in the process of moving into their new FANTASTIC building. There are at least 40 small boxes of information and I only went through 4 of them. Jack thinks this is all with old papers, but I think there are more since don't remember seeing the document Roger did for PCFR Quarterly. The only Loftin information I saw was the Preston Loftin Bible. There are Craven, Wayne and mostly Pitt documents - I only abstracted the Lenoir ones since Roger is working the Pitt deeds. There are hundreds of receipts and two wills - the Susan Harper Will of Pitt and a partial copied will of Simon Bright IV, I assume of Lenoir. Both of these will be posted. The vast majority of information is for the Pugh and Laughinghouse families of Swift Creek, Grifton area. Since the Pugh family is mine, found it of great interest, but nothing new as I recall. There is also one old Bryan deed which gives me personal circumstantial evidence - minor that it is - that Elizabeth Bryan Pugh, wife of Hugh Pugh Jr, was indeed the daughter of Lewis Bryan as I have thought. Be next week before the other two get typed up and sent to Guy. Roger also let me go through his notebook with his notes on Supreme Court Cases. Had done some of it several years ago but that was before I was interested in any local family. Now just to find time for extensive work at the NC Archives in the Supreme Court Cases. He said the NC Reports books he got them out of are the ones at ECU and there are many NC Reports by different companies so this is going to be a bit of a problem in trying to match them up, Many thanks Roger!!! If any of you are in Morehead after Veterans Day, please take the time to go by the Carteret Co Historical Society's new museum - it is indeed first class and I look forward to seeing it once it is open. My thanks to Jack Goodwin, the full time, unpaid, director who pulled these boxes out of storage for us to look through. My sister and I spent a day at the Duplin Co Courthouse - the quiet in that town is overwhelming. We also had the opportunity to meet Dr. Dallas Herring who sang the praises of Sloan. Need to have time to go back and get in his files. Got some Sutton and Rouse information - not sure how helpful it is going to be yet. Martha

Found them listed on the 1880 Person County Census but only know of two of John T's siblings and they were Luna (a daughter) and Ed (a son). There is a daughter listed in the 1880 cenus looks like her name was Lou N. so don't know if this is Luna. My father's name was Howard Joseph Satterfield b: 2-11-1910 and he had a sister Pearl, brother Charlie, brother John T., Jr., and a sister Dora. Any info that can connect this John T. to a brother Ed or sister Luna and I will know for sure that Dennis Satterfield born abt 1840 is my great grandfather. Please e-mail me at ecoltrain@hillcpa.com or at Colmedsec1@aol.com. Thanks

I found in Dale Co.,AL a Joshua Herring age 62 on the 1850 census with wife Kesiah and son Joseph age 25 in household and probable son William R. born 1813 just above. Several of William's children were born in GA. There are not many Joshua Herrings (or various spellings) on census and found only one in GA 1830, listed as Joshua Herrin in Marion Co., Ga with himself and wife in right age group and could be William and Joseph. 012201-010001. Names on the same page include, Drinkwater, Windham, Amerson, then Joshua, Melvin, Underwood, Page, William & Ephriam Taylor; John & Wiley & Moses Hill, Adams,Posey, Cox and then Tekil & Thomas Taylor. Included given names of the several alike and surnames recognized from these counties of Dobbs. I believe this Joshua Herring may be the son of Enoch Herring of Sampson Co. NC. Are any of the names above ones that anyone here is researching? Do you have any information on Joshua Herring with wife Kesiah/Keziah??? Thanks.. Rose Parks
