    1. [NCLENOIR] suggestion for your bookmarks
    2. Martha Marble
    3. As most of you have already found out, there is another virus going around - seems to be a mutant of the badtrans and my McAfee is NOT picking it up. I know where some of mine originated from - she is not on our lists - but it is coming from other places. In addition, it is putting a _ in front of the address of the sender so you can't reply to warn them. Like Susan, I eliminated all but a few of my bookmarks and put them in a word file - it is time consuming when I want to send someone an email but it keeps a virus from spreading. In addition, someone suggested putting as the first bookmark !0000 - this is suppose to stop an attachment going out to everyone on your booksmarks as your email won't send it and therefore stops all of them. Don't know if it works and hope don't have to find out, but it certainly can't hurt. PLEASE remember, people don't usually send you a virus by design - they don't know they have one. Advise them to clean up their pc but do it nicely and watch opening any attachments. Martha

    1. [NCLENOIR] Old Neuse River Landings
    2. J. & S. Gaddis
    3. There was an old landing on the Neuse River known as Nelson's Landing or Clark's Landing that still shows up on some newer maps of Lenoir County for some reason, even though the landing has long since been abandoned. It was on the north bank of the Neuse, just upstream from the current DuPont plant and across the river from another landing known as West's Landing. Nelson's Landing was on land that was once known as the Clark-King Plantation and that was owned after the Civil War by John Nelson. I assume that steamboats from New Bern used to stop there. I've heard that there was a road that ran along a ridge all the way to the river from what is now Highway 11 to the landing. There are remnants of an old slough in the general vicinity of Nelson's Landing, but as far as I can tell, no sign of an old dock or pier. Is anyone familiar with this landing, know exactly where it was, heard anyone talking about it, know what it was used for? Jim Gaddis

    3. Thanksgiving this year is a poignant one for our country given recent events. We are all stressed and worried, yet more than ever we will all give special thanks this year for what we have, what being an American means, and what our ancestors sacrificed for us. The intent of the original Thanksgiving will be very clear this year. Even though many of you will not be with family for maybe the first time, we hope each of you have a very Happy Thanksgiving. 3. Gayle, Don't anything about the Grady/Graddy family or where they lived but it would make sense there were members of the family on this branch which was probably named after them. Am trying to find out where it was because can't find it. Deep Run and Horse or Horsepen Branch were ss of the river but sort of due south from Falling Creek and Bear Creek. There were Taylors near Bear Creek because they intermarried with the Rouse family early. No idea if there was any connection with my Taylors but there were Williams in both families of the same age - more or less. Martha Martha, Interesting about GRADDY Branch We think Pierce Mozingo's second wife may have been Sarah GRADDY, but I haven't found any Graddys who had a daughter b. abt 1760 Do you know if the GRADDYs lived on that branch? Do you know the proximity of it to Bear Creek or Falling Creek. Appreciate any help. 3. WHEW!!!! Now, how about transcribing it and sending it to Guy for posting. Where would it go - Lenoir or Duplin? And also to Heritage Place - a copy if you can get a good one. If not maybe someone can scan it for you if you don't have a scanner. You may have the only copy which is worth its weight in gold since the original was burned. 3. Pat, you can probably answer these questions since this is your neck of the woods. Taking a shot on the early Taylor family which is wishful thinking. About how far, as the crow flies, is it from where Deep Run flows into SW Creek to where Horse/Horsegrate Branch flows into SW Creek. Has anyone ever heard of Graddy's Branch which was probably in this same area and may be called something else today. Don't see it listed anywhere but it existed in 1770 according to a land patent. I have the same information and assume there are Marriage Bonds but not had time to check. >This also has to be the division made in Nov mentioned in Sarah's Will Don't think so. Her will clearly states "November last". William's will left her 1/3 of his estate so she had plenty herself and she may have added to it. What was divided in 1793 was William's estate. I had Heritage Place check the Bertie Cross Indices for 1808 yesterday to see if there was an entry for Sarah as the grantor and Sharon said no. Too bad as it must have been a "gentleman's" agreement. Maybe there are estate records for Sarah at the NC Archives. Also the Cross Indices need to be checked to see if there is any possibility this could have been entered some other way. It is very unusual for that time period for the spouse of the daughters not to be named in estate records. Too bad Sarah's wasn't. > >4. Sounds like a good bet - that name Fleetwood is coming from somewhere. I understand William Parrott stayed and died in Bertie but don't know if he had a Will. The Hardy family in Bertie is on my list of things to do but not until I get the rest of my Lenoir and Greene families on the database then will Bertie all at one time. Have to do Pitt first. Course, the main reason for working the Hardy family in Bertie was to find the wife of Benjamin (Oxley) and think that has been done but would like a little more in the way of hard cold proof. 3. I have Elizabeth b 3/25/1757 m 10/1786 to Moses Williams I have Martha b 10/17/1752 m 4/18/1770 to Job Hunter This convinces me of Sarah being married to Benjamin Oxley Sutton. This also has to be the division made in Nov mentioned in Sarah's Will 4. The way the Will reads, it does not appear any of the children were married although the oldest five Martha, Lamb, Elizabeth, Sarah, and William Parrott were all old enough. Because Elizabeth was singled out to be allowed to live in the house until she married, it is very possible that Martha and Sarah were already married. Certainly in 1782 both Martha and Elizabeth would have been considered to be "old Maids" and Sarah also as she would have been close to 23. I have Lamb b 1/20/1754 m 8/23/1790 m Winnifored Boswell.
