Pink Hill is on the other side of the county from Loften's Crossroads. THere is a historical marker by the side of the road regarding the older James Davis but as I understand it, that does not mean he was buried there. It appears there were two James Davis of the same age - one along the Tuckahoe and the other slightly north of there, north of Deep Run along Horse Branch. These families have been confused by some researchers, mostly by the Horse Branch bunch which is my branch. Having two men of the same age and same name within a short distance and there not being a connection would be unusual. If James Davis had a Pension, I have not seen it would would be more than interested. Hello Cousin Allen, I will post this about Pink Hill Cemetery in Lenoir County, NC quite possibly near Loftin's Crossroads. ANYBODY IN LENOIR COUNTY, NC KNOW WHERE PINK HILL CEMETERY IS? EXCELLENT leads! ... the George JERNIGAN Pension Application would be a great find! Puh-lease keep up the great effort! Had a great Christmas! ... Happy New Year! I went to the New England Genealogical Library in downtown Boston, and they have quite an extensive collection of records from the south... there were lots of various county records for NC, Virginia, etc. to explore (I only had 2 hours!) .... no records of Peter Fairfax in anything I examined , although I did find some REvolutionary War references related to the James Davis on the 1797 document for Dormand and Herrenton ... I had earlier told you (I think), that there was a James Davis who was a fifer in the 1st NC Continental line .... there is a James Davis buried at Pink Hill in Lenoir County (listed as a revolutionary war veteran... wonder where Pink Hill cemetery is exactly ... perhaps close to Loftin's crossroads??) ... this is the general area for Peter F. ..... also, I have two references to pension application files by James Davis, of which I can now go to the archives and examine these fairly extensive narratives of his time in the military ... if we are lucky, we'll get some connection there ... also, I found a reference for a pension application by (our?) George Jernigan .... these pension applications have quite a bit of info in them, so the archives are my next stop ... Concerning James Fairfax of 1739 Accomack/Northamption county, Virginia (his will dated 1739), I found a marriage record from 1741 of James Fairfax' widow marrying a Col. Dashiel ... Also, in that county, I found a reference of someone named Fairfax Smith willing to each of his daughters six silver soupspoons incribed with the name of James Fairfax... this will was dated around 1770 I believe .... it would be pretty cool to find one of those soupspoons in an antique store somewhere, don't you think?? I suspect at least one of them still exists somewhere ....This Fairfax Smith could be the grandson of James Fairfax??, if a daughter of his married a Smith?? Anyway, this is what I have ... no great breakthroughs, and this James Davis is a real longshot for info .... I suspect I will not find a Revolutionary war reference to Dormand or Herrenton... from what I understand from reading about these land warrants, the only reason they (John and Daniel Fairfax) would have needed to get a legal document about the participation of their fathers in the War was if the State of NC at the time could not find a reference to them in the records they had back in the late 1700s (essentially, what is on microfilm at the archives)... so, the chances of me finding a list with their names on it is pretty slim ... however, the signatures on the legal document of the two officers seems legitimate, and these were two prominent officers in the 1st NC line ... So, hope this is somewhat interesting, and I will try to squeeze in some time to go to the archives soon .... Hope you had a great Christmas, and take care .... Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/QUB.2ACE/298.324.1.1 Message Board Post: Clair, I have set Robert White of Lenior aside, and have been following other leads. Mildred Whitehead White, was our Robert's wife of Union Co, there is no known marriage record, only church minutes and deeds, and other materials, after Mildred's death in 1807, Robt. married an Elizabeth ???, by 1810. The closest I've come, is a Robert White of Caswell Co, who lived by a William Whitehead, from Granville NC, they were both on the Tax rolls there 1781/88, Robt left in 1887, and Wm in 1788, we know for sure this Wm Whitehead moved to Laurens Co SC, right next to where my Robert White arrived in 1788. There is more to this story, that connects them, deed, and Mildred being mentioned in Wm's Will. We know from Robt's grandsons letter, written in 1886, that Robert Sr., lived near the TAR River in NC, for a short time, prior to his move to Unoin SC, in 1788.. But wanted to make it clear that Mildred Whitehead White, was not the wife of Robert White of Lenoir Co NC, but as we all know, nothing is etched in stone, for those times. Currently, we do not know who any of the Siblings or Parents were for our Robert White 1743-1843. He sure left much detail in Union and Spartanburg SC. Though in 1790 and 1800 census of Union, there are White's of his age bracket living on either side of him... we are hopeful, that someday we can tie them all together. Robert sold land in 1814, in Laurens Co, to two individuals, who were Estate Administrators for Wm Whitehead. I haven't proved this yet, but I believe, this land had belonged to Mildred, left to her by her father, and was being sold back into the Whitehead family estate, to keep it in the family. Of course this whole area of SC at the time of there arrival was Old 96th District, split up into other counties in 1796. Craven Co included portions of this area in colonial times, so you can see, any theory, is just a discovery away .... Hope this helps, Mike White

Eric, I pretty well sarched the area, there were some old wooden markers, or the remains of such located behind the marker for the Hartsfield family. Billy sent this note in another email. Martha, regarding your email re: Baltimore County, MD. I found a will and made a copy (which I can't find now) for Richard COWARD, made out I think in 1726/1727. A witness was Charles MARKLAND, who I suspect is the father of the Dobbs county MARKLAND. Charles Sr. married Mary COWARD so that may be a strong link to your Eastern NC COWARD family. I will find the will, scan it (once I load the drivers on the new PC) and send it on. Ruth and I tried to connect the William and Edward Coward families in Bertie and Dobbs and couldn't. THe older William in Bertie stayed and died there. THere is one small hint that William of Dobbs was the son of a William but we could find only one mention of him. Maybe he was out of Baltimore Co Martha

I also got this virus, from my geneology friends, and Norton did not pick it up. However I updated my subscription for $9.95 and rescanned and it found it. The most current Norton .dat file is 1/2/2002. Norton would not correct two of the files infected. They were c:\windows\system\kernel32.dll and c:\windows\system\kdll.dll. The kdll.dll file is not a Windows file. The virus created it. If you are running Windows 98 it is simple to fix. You will need your Windows 98 Installation cd. Here is what you do: 1) Click Start, point to Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools and then click System Information. 2) On the Tools menu click System File Checker. 3) Click "Extract one file from installation disk," type kernel32.dll in the specify system file you would like to restore box, and then click Start. 4) In the Restore From box type the path to your Windows 98 CD-ROM, type the destination folder in the Save File box, if necessary, and then click OK. 5) Click Ok, click OK and then click yes when you are prompted to restart your computer. I got this information from Microsoft support site. The name of the article is "How to Extract Original Compressed Windows Files (Q129605). This article gives you info on how to recover a file from Windows 95, 98, 98 SE, Internet Explorer 4 and 5 and Windows ME. Don't forget to update your Norton subscription, rescan your computer and let Norton fix what it can first.
This virus was sent to me and Norton did not pick it up. The person that sent it to me their Norton did not pick it up either. They put out an email to check your computer and I had already thought something. I think I only received it in the last few days, but it came to me through the Genealogy people and these are the people that I email also. Please everyone check out your computer. I am sorry that I have gotten it and hope I have not passed it along. I also hope I can fix it without big problems. If anyone else has it and has suggestions let me know. I am going to the Symantec site for assistance. Linda Melvin
